Prolific filmmaker James Omokwe is making a return to Showmax with a brand-new epic drama series, Cheta M, a love story between young lovers, Adanna and Nnanna who battle spiritual and political forces that stand in their way.
The 130-episode series explores the extraordinary love story of Adanna and Nnanna, who must navigate a world where tensions between the kingdoms of Mgberi and Ajaani have reached critical levels.
Set against a backdrop of politics, spiritual interference, and memory manipulation, they fight to protect their love. Ojigijaga, the spiritual shaman of Mgberi, is a formidable obstacle to their union. Lies, secrets, murder, blackmail, and uncertainty surround them. Meanwhile, the leader of Mgberi’s inner council, Ezeugo, and Ajaani’s inner council endeavour to maintain peace between their kingdom and the newly anointed King of Ajaani, Jideofor.
The series stars Oluchi Amajuoyi and Kingsley Nwachukwu, who play Adanna and Nnanna respectively. Ruby Okezie (Far From Home) plays Mmesomma, Kalu Ikeagwu plays Jideofor, and Nonso Odogwu (Agu) takes the role of Ezeugo.
James Omokwe, renowned for his epic telenovelas including hit series Ajoche, Riona and Itura, and the producer of Showmax’s first limited drama series, Diiche, returns as producer and one of the directors on Cheta M, which was created by Ifeanyi Barbara Chidi.
Speaking ahead of the series premiere, Omokwe said, “Cheta M is one of our best shows so far. It radiates beauty on all levels. Each time I sit down in post-production, I am in awe of the marvel that is Cheta M. There is a deep sense of emotion in all the story threads of the show. Each character, on their journey to finding themselves, finding love, losing it and even clamouring for revenge, is part and parcel of why I love the show. This time, we have taken you on an alluring epic journey to the east. It is a beautiful story of love, desire and mystery.’’
Also commenting on the series, Dr Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice, described Cheta M as a beautiful love story that will take viewers through various emotions. “Cheta M is a great show. The storyline, production and the cast have made magic happen. They have created such a brilliant piece that will draw the viewers in. We expect that viewers will find pieces of themselves in the characters’ stories and enjoy every episode with relish while waiting for the next. We are proud of this title and cannot wait to see the viewers watch and engage with this title.”
Cheta M comes on the heels of a packed slate of shows that should usher the new Showmax, including a new season of Flawsome, a reality series starring Rahama Sadau; Freemen, a documentary on Igbo apprenticeship; and The Counsellor, a romantic film.
Cheta’M premieres on February 12, 2024, with new episodes showing weekly on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
