HBO Max will have their hands full in the foreseeable future as the pandemic threatens the safety of people going to the cinema. As announced last December, a number of Warner Bros’ subsequent 2021 movie releases will be on HBO Max for 31 days counting from the same day it becomes available in the cinema. According to the entertainment conglomerate, the fourth quarter of 2020 saw HBO Max double its activations to 17.2 million and this was due to the release of Wonder Woman 1984 during Christmas.

A sizzle reel released by HBO gives fans a glimpse of what to expect in 2021. In the Warner Bros 2021 trailer, there are footages of some notable movies. The 2021 Warner Bros shows David Chase’s  The Many Saints of Newark, a prequel movie to The Sopranos which was recently delayed from March to September 24 as reported by IndieWire. Young Tony is played by Michael Gandolfini, son of late James Gandolfini who played Tony Soprano in the critically acclaimed series. In an interview with Variety, The Many Saints of Newark actor, John Maegro, had a meeting with David Chase in which he found out that the creator of The Sopranos was casting James Gandolfini’s son, Michael, in his father’s legendary role. Maegro commented about how similar Michael was to his father (James Gandolfini) not just by looks but by manners also.

The trailer also includes footage of James Wan horror movie, Malignant and the third part of The Conjuring titled The Devil Made Me Do It. The Little Things, a psychological thriller starring Denzel Washington and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rami Malek, will also be available for streaming on HBO Max. The highly anticipated Denis Villeneuve Dune is also part of the feature. However, as reported by IndieWire, Villeneuve has been pertinacious about releasing the movie on HBO Max, saying the change to streaming on HBO Max could kill the franchise.

A glimpse of Matrix 4 was not included but a sequel to the Keanu Reeves movie might be set out for 2021 theatre-HBO Max rollout. The filmmaker of The Matrix, Lana Wachowski, was also agitated about the shift to HBO Max. The Hanna-Barbera characters, Tom and Jerry, will also be back in (live) action on March 5 and will be available on HBO Max.

Mortal Kombat, one of the most popular games which have been adapted into movies, will also be available by April 16 on the streaming platform. Another movie that will be shown on the streaming service is Godzilla vs Kong. This movie is directed by Adam Wingard and is the fourth film in the Legendary Monsterverse.

King Richard, starring Will Smith, who will be playing the father of famous Tennis player, Serena Williams, is also on its way to the streamer and will be available on November 19. The movie is an upcoming biography film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin.
