Skydance Media has announced that it has optioned the rights to reimagine the beloved children franchise, Spy Kids. This will be achieved in conjunction with Spyglass Media Group and the creator of the franchise, Robert Rodriguez. Robert Rodriguez will write and direct the new Spy Kids film while Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre will serve in the office of executive producer.
Deadline reports that Robert Rodriguez is behind successful movies such as Alita: Battle Angel, Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, and has some interesting works forthcoming such as Hypnotic and The Mandalorian spin-off The Book of Boba Fett. Skydance itself has been at the helm of some thrilling Hollywood recent successes such as The Old Guard and 6 Underground. They have highly anticipated movies such as the seventh installment of the Mission Impossible franchise, Top Gun: Maverick, and G.I Joe: Snake Eyes.

The new Spy Kids is a movie to be excited about most importantly because its original viewers are no longer kids and certainly, this “reimagining” would cater for them while keeping its eyes on a new generation of kids to endear to the franchise. In these peculiar times rife with the “reimagining” of old, successful movies, how this will be done remains to be seen, but regardless, this is a project to be excited about.
