Nigerian home-based filmmakers Isioma Osaje, Fatimah Binta Gimsay, Stephanie Dadet, and Temidayo Makanjuola have been selected for the African Creative TV 2024 Residency in Los Angeles. Osaje and Dadet will participate in the Producer category, while Gimsay and Makanjuola have been chosen for the Head Writer category.
Isioma Osaje and Temidayo Makanjuola served as the co-showrunners for the fourth season of audience favorite MTV Shuga Naija. Osaje also served as a producer of Netflix’s first Nigerian YA show Far From Home, while Makanjuola is credited as a producer for the crime drama Oloture.
Fatimah Binta Gimsay, another selectee, has vast experience in multiple Africa Magic writers rooms. She is known for her work as head writer for Africa Magic Check Out and as a writer in Enakhe as well as her recent TV feature debut Alli Eid Dinner which she executive produced. Stephanie Dadet has contributed as a writer and story editor on Covenant and Masquerade of Aniedo and recently made her directorial debut with Alli Eid Dinner.
According to the US Department of State website, the Africa Creative TV aims to connect African creatives with the U.S. entertainment industry, support African creative economies, build a regional network of African TV creatives, and elevate the creative producer role in African TV production.
The first of its kind four-week summer residency is a U.S department of state and USC School of Cinematic Arts Initiative produced by American Film Showcase and focused on engaging African TV producers and writers who produce high quality content for a global market.
