The 2019 film is based on the non-fiction book “I Heard You Paint Houses” written by defence attorney Charles Brandt to document the story of “The Irishman” Frank Sheeran. Sheeran, who was jailed, allegedly had ties to the Bufalino crime family and was responsible for the deaths of Jimmy Hoffa and Joe Gallo.

The story follows U.S. Marshal, Edward “Teddy” Daniels (Leonardo Dicaprio) and his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) in their investigations into the disappearance of a patient on a psychiatric facility, Shutter Island.

The biographical film follows the life of Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), his friends, wife and experience in the mafia. Henry’s life with the mafia starts young – merely a teenager when he begins working for a mafia capo through which he meets Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) and Tommy Devito (Joe Pesci).

Cape Fear
In Cape Fear, a rapist following his release from prison, goes after his lawyer and his family for revenge. This comes from Max Cady (Robert De Niro) realising through legal studies in prison that his lawyer (Nick Nolte) purposefully failed to present (or withheld) details that could have reduced his sentence.

Gangs of New York
In this period crime film that might have inspired our own Gangs of Lagos, we follow Amsterdam (Leonardo DiCarprio), who after having witnessed his father’s murder in a gang war, is on a mission to avenge him.

Raging Bull
Raging Bull follows boxer Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro) who, as the title suggests, thinks with his fist. Jake’s violent and raging tendency which helped establish him as a successful boxer in the first place, injures his relationship with his wife, brother and eventually, the very career it helped build.

The Aviator
The Aviator narrates the story of aerospace engineer, pilot and film producer, Howard Hughes, as adapted from Charles Higham’s “Howard Hughes: The Secret Life”. Howard (Leonardo DiCaprio) who had a promising career in both aviation and film experienced problems due to his long history of germaphobia, OCD, mental illness and his injuries sustained from fatal air crashes.
