EXCLUSIVE: In the Shadows of Good Fortune has been selected for the 7th Atlas Workshops post-production lab at the Marrakech International Film Festival, taking place from December 1-5, 2024. This selection positions the film, directed and written by Babatunde Apalowo and produced by Kemi Lala Akindoju, among a select group of projects receiving support in the final stages of production.
While plot and cast details remain undisclosed, In the Shadows of Good Fortune is a collaboration between Apalowo’s Polymath Pictures and Lala Akindoju’s The Make It Happen Production Company, with co-production support from Nkechi Okere, Jamiu Shoyode, and Oludara Egerton-Shyngle. Lala Akindoju most recently produced popular streaming action hits Gangs of Lagos and The Black Book.
Apalowo’s recent work includes All the Colours of the World Are Between Black and White, which has made acclaimed rounds on the international festival circuit, as well as his project Londoner, presented earlier this year at financing markets in Berlin and Durban.
The Atlas Workshops will feature 10 films in production or post-production and 17 development projects from 13 countries. Chosen from 320 applicants across Africa and the Arab world, the program provides a structured environment for filmmakers to refine their projects and connect with international industry mentors. This year’s program includes support from U.S. director Jeff Nichols (The Bikeriders), who will work with the selected filmmakers as a mentor.
Launched in 2018, the Atlas Workshops has gained a reputation for helping regional projects achieve broader festival exposure and industry success, with some titles moving on to compete at Cannes and other major festivals. In the Shadows of Good Fortune now joins the roster of Atlas-supported films, strengthening Nigeria’s representation in the international film circuit.
Further details about the project are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
