Produced by Uche Okocha under Trino Motion Pictures, Love Lockdown is a film that explores love and relationships against the backdrop of a global crisis. Cast members of the Lyndsey F. Efejuku-directed flick include Andrew Bunting, Detola Jones, Yewande Osamien, Doris Okorie, and Obichi Marshall.

Tarella: Princess of the Nile

Loosely based on the Cinderella story, Tarella, set in a mythical West African kingdom reimagines the classic tale through the story of Tarella (Okawa Shaznay), an orphaned maiden, and Prince Nosa (Timini Egbuson), the heir to the throne, as they brave numerous obstacles in their quest for true love. Other cast members include Richard Mofe-Damijo, Chioma Idigo, Elvina Ibru, Ummi Baba-Ahmed, Rebecca Nengi Hampson. Co-directed by Lolo Eremie & Kayode Kasum, Tarella has been highly anticipated by audiences ever since its festival run.

Tarella: Princess of the Nile is coming to cinemas nationwide February 7.

Reel Love

Reel Love unravels a romantic triangle, touching on love, tradition, and unexpected turns. Starring Timini Egbuson, T.J. Omusuku, Funke Akindele, Dakore Akande, and others, Reel Love marks Timini Egbuson’s executive producing debut which will screen in cinemas on Valentine’s Day.

Umjolo: There Is No Cure

Umjolo: There is No Cure is the fourth instalment in the South African four-part anthology film series, a series that tells the story of the love lives of four women. Umjolo: There is No Cure focuses on a former pageant queen who lost her crown due to a public scandal, and now writes a book to tell her side of the story. Ada Omo Daddy

The plot follows Pero (Omowumi Dada), whose wedding preparations take an unexpected turn when a man named Ifeanyi (Charles Okafor) arrives, asserting a long-buried connection to her. His presence shakes the foundation of the Balogun household, forcing unresolved issues to surface before she can walk down the aisle. The cast includes Sola Sobowale, Mercy Aigbe, Chiwetalu Agu, and Uche Ndubuisi. 

The 2023 film will be available to stream on Netflix for African subscribers and Circuits, the recently launched Nigerian streaming platform.

A Country Called Ghana

A Country Called Ghana tells the story of Professor (Kwadwo Nkansah), the sole educated man in a rural Ghanaian community, who finds himself at the centre of an unexpected conflict. A group of foreigners, led by Ramsey Noah, arrives with a mission to claim a valuable resource from the village for their own nation. The Ghanaian film also stars seasoned Nollywood actors like Charles Awurum, Victor Osuagwu.

A Country Called Ghana is coming to cinemas on February 28.

Kabiyesi

Showmax’s original epic drama series, Kabiyesi follows Princess Aderiyife, whose path to power is shaken by betrayal and political turmoil. Inspired by the reign of Orompoto, the only female Alaafin of Oyo, she must fight for her kingdom and defy expectations to lead.

Starring Annetta Adebusuyi, Akin Lewis, and Amokun Ibrahim, Kabiyesi will feature 10 episodes with new episodes every Friday.

The Most Toasted Girl S2

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Bolaji Kekere-Ekun, the new season of The Most Toasted Girl brings back Nengi Adoki, joined by a stellar cast including Zainab Balogun, Funmbi Toye, Bryan Okoye and more. With wit and determination, the ever-ambitious toasted girl hustles through Lagos, juggling vlogging, dating, job hunts, and Nollywood auditions—all while keeping it real with her audience.

The web series will begin airing on Nengi Adoki’s YouTube Channel.

February 3

A Star Is Born

In A Star is Born, seasoned musician Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) discovers and falls for talented singer Ally (Lady Gaga), helping her rise to stardom as his own career crumbles due to addiction. As Ally’s success soars, their relationship is tested by personal struggles and the price of fame. The multiple award-winning film is coming to Showmax on February 3.

The Color Purple

Directed by Steven Spielberg and adapted from Alice Walker’s acclaimed novel, The Color Purple (1985) follows Celie, a Black woman who faces years of mistreatment but gradually finds hope through friendship, love, and self-worth. Featuring performances from Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Danny Glover, the film’s take on resilience, oppression, and freedom resonates with generations, earning itself a remake. 

The Color Purple starts streaming on Showmax on February 3.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story, David Fincher’s fantasy drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button captures the story of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt), a man who ages in reverse, experiencing love, loss, and the passage of time in a unique way.

The film also stars Cate Blanchett as Daisy, Taraji P. Henson as Queenie, and Tilda Swinton as Elizabeth Abbott, with Mahershala Ali, Jared Harris, and Julia Ormond in supporting roles. 

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is coming to Showmax on February 5.

Night Swim

Night Swim is a 2024 supernatural horror film directed by Bryce McGuire. It follows a family who moves into a new home with a backyard swimming pool, only to discover a dark and malevolent presence lurking beneath the water. As eerie occurrences escalate, they must confront the terrifying secret hidden within the depths. Starring Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) Amélie Hoeferle, and Gavin Warren, Night Swim will be available to stream on Showmax.

Dog Man

Adapted from Dav Pikey’s book, DreamWorks animated comedy tells the story of a faithful police dog and his human police officer owner who are injured together on the job. A life-saving surgery fuses the two of them, creating Dog Man, a half-human, half-dog hero sworn to protect and serve. The voice cast includes Pete Davidson as Petey the Cat, Lil Rel Howery as Chief, Isla Fisher, Poppy Liu, Stephen Root, Billy Boyd, and Ricky Gervais. Dog Man begins its theatrical run on February 7.

Captain America: Brave New World

Captain America: Brave New World sees Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson take on his first solo mission as Captain America, navigating a global crisis involving President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) and the return of The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson). Directed by Julius Onah, the film features Danny Ramirez, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Lumbly, and Liv Tyler. Coproduced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, it will be released in cinemas worldwide on February 14.

She Came to Me

She Came To Me is a 2023 whimsical romantic dramedy that follows a struggling opera composer (Peter Dinklage) who rediscovers his creative spark after an unexpected encounter with a free-spirited tugboat captain (Marisa Tomei). Meanwhile, his wife (Anne Hathaway), a perfectionist therapist, struggles with her own hidden struggles.

Despicable Me 4

A former villain turned family man faces a new challenge when criminal mastermind Maxime Le Mal escapes from prison and threatens his world. With his clever wife, three adopted daughters, and a team of mischievous yellow creatures, he must outsmart the threat while managing the chaos around him.

Late Night with the Devil

A gripping found-footage horror film that unravels during a live TV broadcast in the 1970s. As a struggling late-night talk show host (David Dastmalchian) tries to boost ratings with an eerie Halloween special, the show takes a sinister turn when a young girl—said to be the lone survivor of a Satanic cult—joins the broadcast. What starts as a routine interview quickly descends into chaos, with supernatural forces taking hold in real-time. Horror enthusiasts can expect this on Showmax from February 25th. 

February 28

The Monkey

Adapted from Stephen King’s 1980 short story, The Monkey is an upcoming American horror-comedy film directed by Osgood “Oz” Perkins, starring Theo James (Divergent) in dual roles as twin brothers Hal and Bill. 

The narrative follows the brothers as they discover their father’s old toy monkey, which seems to trigger a series of gruesome deaths. After attempting to rid themselves of the cursed toy and parting ways, the deaths resume years later, compelling them to reunite and confront the sinister force. The cast also includes Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), and Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth). 

The Monkey is coming to cinemas on February 28.

Clean Slate S1

Amazon’s comedy series, Clean Slate follows Harry (George Wallace), a car wash owner in Alabama, whose life is turned upside down when his estranged child, Desiree (Laverne Cox), returns after 17 years. Now a proud trans woman, Desiree and Harry must navigate their complicated relationship while dealing with family, acceptance, and personal growth.

Invincible S3

Invincible Season 3 premieres on Prime Video with the first three episodes dropping at once, followed by weekly releases until March 13. This season, Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) faces even greater challenges, showcasing enhanced abilities and debuting a new blue suit. Returning voice cast includes Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Seth Rogen, and Zazie Beetz, alongside new villains voiced by Aaron Paul, Simu Liu, and more. The hit Amazon series has already been renewed for a fourth season. 

Sweet Magnolias S4

February 13

Cobra Kai S6

The final season of Cobra Kai is set to conclude with three parts. The first two parts were released on July 18 & November 15, 2024, and the final part coming up on February 13, 2025. These episodes are expected to resolve the intense cliffhangers from the previous seasons, including the death of the character Kwon, and provide closure to the series’ ongoing storylines.

Love Is Blind S8

Netflix’s hit reality dating show Love Is Blind returns for its eighth season on February 14, marking the series’ fifth anniversary. This time, singles from Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota, will take part in the social experiment, hoping to form deep emotional connections without seeing each other first. This season will have 12 episodes, with the first six dropping on premiere day and the rest releasing weekly on Fridays. 

Hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey return to guide the hopeful participants as they test whether love can truly be blind.

February 15

Yellowjackets S3

Yellowjackets Season 3 picks up as the survivors face the chilling consequences of their past and present. In the wilderness, desperation fuels new horrors, pushing the team to the edge. In the present, the truth about their past refuses to stay buried, threatening their fragile grip on normalcy. Yellowjackets returns on Valentine’s Day and will stream on Showmax from February 15.

The White Lotus S3

The White Lotus season 3 takes guests to an opulent Thai resort where lavish vacations spiral into chaos. Zero Day is an upcoming Netflix miniseries starring Robert De Niro in his first major TV role. The political thriller follows a former U.S. president pulled back into the spotlight amid a massive cyberattack threatening national security.
