Netflix hits new heights as the first streaming service to have 200 million subscribers worldwide. According to IndieWire, during Netflix’s 2020 4th quarter earnings report on January 19, 2021, Netflix announced that it added 8.5 million subscribers in the last quarter of 2020 surpassing its projected gains of 6 million subscribers.

Netflix viewership figures increased drastically last year. Due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, most people found solace and entertainment with Netflix. “Barbarians”, a German historical war drama series was viewed by 37 million subscribers worldwide during the first four weeks of its release. Also, within the first four weeks of “The Queen’s Gambit” release, it amassed more than 62 million viewers. “Sweet Home”, an apocalyptic South Korean television series was viewed by 25 million subscribers , while the Japanese sci-fi series “Alice in Borderland” was viewed by 18 million subscribers. “Bridgerton” amassed over 62 million subscribers within the four weeks of its release in December, 2020. Netflix has exciting news for Bridgerton fans later this week. Due to the success of the first season, there might be plans for a second season in place.

So many exciting TV shows and movies will be coming on Netflix this year. According to Netflix, over 500 movies are in the process of being launched on its streaming service and production difficulties in some regions due to the ongoing pandemic are being resolved. However, the first quarter of 2021 will bring in movies such as: “To All the Boys: Always and Forever”; “The White Tiger”,a Bollywood drama starring Priyanka Chopra; “Space Sweepers”, a Korean sci-fi action film and “Malcolm and Marie”, an American black and white drama film starring Zendaya and John David Washington.

According to IndieWire, as reported by Variety, Netflix gained 36 million subscribers throughout the fiscal year of 2020, making Netflix the king of the streaming Industry for now.
