In an official confirmation of yesterday’s breaking news, Sozo Films has confirmed the leads of Owambe, currently shooting in Lagos with director Oluseyi Asurf (Hakkunde) at the helm. The film tells the story of a young woman (assumed to be Bankole) who returns from abroad and has to take up her mother’s role as Iyaloja.

In what has been teased as a romantic pairing, Kehinde Bankole and Jidekene Achufusi will lead the cast of Owambe. Joining the two as supporting characters are Iyabo Ojo, Fathia Balogun, Lina Idoko, Ngozi Nwosu, Tunbosin Aiyedehin, Tope Olowoniyan, Tina Mba, Taiwo Hassan, Iya Rainbow and Nimi Adekanmbi.

Wale Ojo has a smaller role than originally thought, already seen in a BTS clip that shows a cross-examination scene between him and Bankole. Further role details remain unknown.

The official logline of Owambe reads, “A young crafty woman gets embroiled in a battle for the position of Iya Oloja after her mother dies. Although she seems sincere to the market women of Isale-Eko, they quickly discover her past is not as it seems.”

Owambe is written by Nimi Adekanmbi, Toniah Chukwurah (In Another Life), and Olumide Kuti (WURA). Chris Odeh (Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story) serves as producer on the project, in a co-production between Joy Odiete of Blue Pictures, Oluseyi Asurf and Odeh. KC Obiajulu is credited as cinematographer with Tunji Afolayan behind the production design.

Owambe joins other yet to be released projects by Sozo Films like Tokunbo and Man in the Mirror.
