The Last Call

In The Last Call, popular OAP Hauwa faces off with a deranged caller live on air and must answer questions about her dark past or lose a loved one. Directed by Shola Thompson, The Last Call stars Zainab Balogun, Valentine Ohu, Obi Maduegbuna, Seun Ajayi, and Bimbo Oshin. The Last Call will be in cinemas. 

Orisa

The 2023 Odunlade Adekola-directed Yoruba epic film stars frequent co-star Femi Adebayo in a familiar role. Also starring Dele Odule, Binta Ayo Mogaji, and Shaffy Bello, Orisa will be available on Prime Video.

Silent Intruder

Director Uyoyou Adia makes a return to the big screen with Silent Intruder, another romance-inclined film in the sultry vein of her 2022 release Hey You!. Her stars in Silent Intruder are Uche Montana, Kachi Nnochiri, Lucy Ameh and Pere Egbi. They lead us into the world of Zaki, a successful sex therapist who grapples with insatiable desires. Silent Intruder will be released in cinemas.

I Love You Regardless

I Love You Regardless is a romcom starring Jide Kene Achufusi, Enyinna Nwigwe, Titi Joseph, Denrele Edun, Adedimeji Lateef and Tina Mba. Directed by Chibuike Ibe, the film will be in cinemas.

Redemption Code

Redemption Code tells the story of Sade, a young city girl who is kidnapped while on work duties and how her fiancé rallies around an international coalition of friends for a rescue mission. The thriller adventure film will be in cinemas.

The Counsellor

The Counsellor delves into the lives of Aisha and Gbenro, who are nursing wounds from previous “breakfasts” delivered by their partners just before Valentine’s Day. They somehow find themselves thrown together on a non-refundable getaway originally planned with their now-exes. The romantic comedy film will be available on Showmax.

February 14

All’s Fair in Love

Nollywood’s Valentine’s Day offering this year is by debutant producer Deyemi Okanlawon who brings a romantic drama to the big screens. All’s Fair in Love places two young business partners against one another when they become entangled in a love triangle with a woman. The film stars Okanlawon, Timini Egbuson and South African actress Buhle Samuels as the trio in the triangle. Also starring Ireti Doyle, Juliet Ibrahim, Kunle Bamtefa and Adedimeji Lateef, All’s Fair in Love will premiere in cinemas on February 14.

A Soweto Love Story

Desperate for her three single sons to get married, a mother promises her house to the first one to tie the knot, setting off a race to the altar. Does it sound familiar? Yes, it reminds us of A Naija Christmas, hinting at what might be an adaptation of this story set in South Africa. A Soweto Love Story will also be headed to Netflix.

On the Edge

On The Edge is a story of love, betrayal, power and revenge starring Uzor Arukwe, Zainab Balogun, Olumide Owuru, and Chimezie Imo. Directed by Temitope Bolade-Akinbode (screenwriter for Fine Wine and Namaste Wahala), On The Edge premieres on Prime Video.

Hotel Labamba

Hotel Labamba is a 2023 comedy murder mystery directed by Biodun Stephen. It stars Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Ademoye, Lilian Afegbai, Bolaji Ogunmola, Kachi Nnochiri, Blessing Jessica Obasi, Etinosa Idemudia, and Femi Adebayo, to be streamed on Prime Video.

L.I.F.E

L.I.F.E stars Omowunmi Dada and Efe Irele as two women who wish life would treat them differently until it does and might just teach them a lesson. Directed by Uyoyou Adia, the film will premiere on Prime Video on February 15.

The Bloom Boys

The Bloom Boys stars Timini Egbuson, Tobi Bakre, Bolanle Ninalowo, Shaffy Bello, Tina Mba, and Gbenga Titiloye. Directed by Xela, the 2023 film will now be available on Prime Video.

Silence

Silence is directed by Yemi Morafa and stars Ade Laoye, Tope Tedela and Efa Iwara. The film unfolds a story of guilt, betrayal and redemption as Bode confronts his friend’s death, navigating abuse, infidelity and the delicate balance between loyalty and protecting a young girl’s welfare.

February 23

One Too Many

One Too Many was on our most anticipated Nollywood movies in 2022 and 2023. The film eventually premiered at AFRIFF in 2022 and went silent in 2023. Directed by Kayode Kasum, One Too Many stars Chimezie Imo, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Rachel Oniga and Jide Kosoko. Convinced of her son’s innocence after he is charged with murder, a woman fights for his freedom against a corrupt and unjust system. One Too Many will be available on Netflix.

It Blooms in June

Korede Azeez’s It Blooms in June heads to Prime Video as one of the 12 first features of the First Features Initiative created by Natives Filmworks and Michelagenglo Productions. The drama explores the story of a father and daughter on a journey of love, heartache and letting go since the death of their beloved wife and mother. The film stars Susan Pwajok, Femi Jacobs and Kiki Omeli.

Dead Serious 

After the cancellation of the film’s original December date, Dead Serious, a romantic comedy, will now be released closer to Valentine’s Day in an attempt to capture the mood of the season. Director Moses Inwang, known for Lockdown, Alter Ego and Blood Vessel, has teased Dead Serious as a romantic-serio-comedy with a dark twist. Marking the debut film under his new production company, Fortress Studios, Dead Serious will not be heading to cinemas, but is set to premier on Showmax as an original.

A Green Fever

A Green Fever is a crime drama set in the 80s, starring Temilolu Fosudo, Darasimi Nadi, Deyemi Okanlawon, William Benson, and Ruby Okezie. Directed by Taiwo Egunjobi (known for In Ibadan and All Na Vibes), the film follows a suave realtor and his sick daughter, in the aftermath of a medical emergency, who seek refuge in a mysterious mansion, which unravels unsettling secrets in the middle of nowhere. After an AFRIFF premiere in 2023, A Green Fever will now be available on Prime Video.

February 12 

Flawsome S2 

Bisola Aiyeola, Ini Dima-Okojie, Enado Odigie, and Sharon Ooja will return in the highly anticipated sophomore season of Flawsome, a drama series that follows the lives of four dynamic and ambitious friends – Ifeyinwa, Ramat, Ivie, and Dolapo – dedicated to both their individual growth and their unbreakable bond. With a writers’ room headed by Dami Elebe, the second season of Flawsom premieres on Showmax. Gabriel Afolayan, Shine Rosman, Eso Dike and Baaj Adebule are also confirmed to be making a return to the series.

Sadau Sisters

Sadau Sisters is one of Showmax’s flagship series for their new app in February. Starring Nigerian actress Rahama Sadau alongside her 3 sisters, the reality series is set against the background of strong religious and cultural beliefs, that will see the sisters reunite in a new home and city – a move that uncovers many secrets about their family. The 13-episode series will subsequently be released weekly on Tuesdays.

Cheta’M

Cheta’M is an epic set in Igbo land, where a young teenage couple, Adanna and Nnanna, find that ‘once in a lifetime’ love – but then are almost immediately separated by spiritual and political forces. Created by Ifeanyi Barbara Chidi (who is also the head writer), James Omokwe serves as executive producer who also helms a number of the 130 episodes. Both creatives are Multichoice regulars known for Ajoche. Cheta’M will be available on Showmax. Starring Oluchi Amajuoyi, Kingsley Nwachukwu (who play Adanna and Nnanna, respectively), Ruby Okezie, Kalu Ikeagwu, and Nonso Odogwu, the series is expected to be a 130-episode project and will be available on Showmax, with new episodes showing weekly on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

Freemen

Freemen is a documentary series that explores the Igbo Apprenticeship system, known locally as Igba Boi. Each episode of the 7-episode series will be released weekly on Wednesdays on Showmax.

The Whale

The Whale is a 2022 drama starring Brendan Fraser, a performance he won an Oscar for. It follows a  reclusive, morbidly obese English teacher attempting to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter. THE Whale will be available on Showmax.

Argylle

Reclusive author Elly Conway writes best-selling espionage novels about a secret agent named Argylle who’s on a mission to unravel a global spy syndicate. However, when the plots of her books start to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur. Starring Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell and John Cena, the Matthew Vaughn-directed action thriller will be in cinemas.

The Color Purple

A woman faces many hardships in her life but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. The remake of the classic film stars Halle Bailey, Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson and Daniel Brooks. The Color Purple will be in cinemas.

Upgraded

Ana (Camila Mendes) is an ambitious intern dreaming of a career in the art world while trying to impress her demanding boss Claire (Marisa Tomei). When she’s upgraded to first class on a work trip, she meets handsome Will (Archie Renaux), who mistakes Ana for her boss- a white lie that sets off a glamorous chain of events, romance and opportunity, until her fib threatens to surface. The romantic film will be on Prime Video.

February 13

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret

Based on the classic novel of the same name, the coming-of-age film will be available on Netflix. It follows an 11-year-old girl whose family moves from the city to the suburbs and has to navigate new friends, feelings, and the beginning of adolescence.

Players

New York sportswriter Mack (Gina Rodriguez) has spent years devising successful hook-up “plays” with her friends (Damon Wayans Jr., Liza Koshy, Augustus Prew, Joel Courtney). But when she unexpectedly falls head over heels for one of her targets (Tom Ellis) she must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to playing for keeps. Players will be available on Netflix.

Madame Web

Madame Web is based on the Marvel comics, starring Sydney Sweeney, Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, and Emma Roberts, in a standalone origin story of one of the comic’s “ most enigmatic” heroes. Madame Web will be in cinemas.

Bob Marley: One Love

Kingsely Ben-Adir is Bob Marley in this biopic about the life of the reggae singer and songwriter, from his rise to fame up until his death. Also starring Lashana Lynch and James Norton, Bob Marley: One Love will be in cinemas.

Mea Culpa

A criminal defense attorney takes on the case of a seductive artist accused of murdering his girlfriend, but when burning desire takes hold, things get hot — and dangerous. Mea Culpa is a Tyler Perry film starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes. The steamy thriller will be available on Netflix.

Babylon

In this 2022 period film, La La Land director Damien Chazelle takes us to the early days of Hollywood. Starring Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, and Olivia Wilde, Babylon will be available on Showmax.

Mr and Mrs Smith 

Mr and Mrs Smith is a reboot series based on the 2005 film of the same name. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine will take over the baton of wits and weapon from Jolie and Pitt. With a stacked guest stars list of Michaela Coel, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Alexander Skarsgård and Sarah Paulson, the 8-episode series will be available on Prime Video.

February 12

Ted S1

Comedian Seth MacFarlane returns with the titular foul-mouthed bear that starred Mark Wahlberg as its adult counterpart. In this prequel series, it’s the mid-1990s, John is 16, and Ted is forced to navigate high school bullies and cliques alongside him. Created by MacFarlane, the series will be available on Showmax.

The Office S1-9

The American one, the more popular version starring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling and Rainn Wilson arrives on Showmax with all 9 seasons.

Parks and Recreation S1-7

The 7 seasons of another beloved sitcom, that follows the absurd antics of an Indiana town’s public officials as they pursue sundry projects to make their city a better place, arrives on Showmax.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series arrives on Netflix with 8 episodes. The adaptation of the animation series of the same name tells the story of a young boy known as the Avatar who must master the four elemental powers to save a world at war — and fight a ruthless enemy bent on stopping him.

Iwaju S1

Iwaju is a coming-of-age animated series that follows Tola, a young girl from a wealthy island, and her best friend, Kole, a self-taught tech expert, as they discover the secrets and dangers hidden in their different worlds. The series boasts Nigerian voice cast members like Femi Branch, Weruche Opia, Kehinde Bankole, Shaffy Bello, Chioma ‘Chigul’ Omeruah, Toyin Oshinaike, Bisola Aiyeola and Lala Akindoju (who also doubles as casting director). Iwaju will be available on Disney+. Nigerian release details have not been revealed.
