Rainmakers

“Is rainmaking real or just a trick?” asks Niyi Akinmolayan’s latest project. Rainmakers is a documentary that will explore the phenomenon of controlling the weather through people that possess the gift to command or cease rain through prayers. Rainmakers will premiere on Prime Video.

The Two Aishas

The Two Aishas is a 2023 film starring Rahama Sadau and Maryam Booth as the titular Aishas. They aren’t your typical friends, they share the same faith and social status but have diverse behaviors. They come to loggerheads when their husbands contest for the same gubernatorial seat. The Two Aishas will now be available on Prime Video.

Rush Hour

After her long-time boyfriend is thrust into a life of fame, Ronke is torn between a love she has always known and the life she has always wanted. Rush Hour is written and directed by Dabby Chimere (Head Over Bills) and stars Alex Ekubo, Sandra Okunzuwa, Nosa Rex, and Etinosa Idemudia. The film will be available on Prime Video.

Small Talk

Small Talk is a co-production between Inkblot Studios, FilmOne and ShutterSpeed Projects, directed by Biodun Stephen, now streaming on Prime Video. The comedy film stars Mr Macaroni in his debut lead acting role as a blabbermouth driver. The synopsis reads, “Baba Dee’s boss and wife are robbed, fueling his determination to find the culprit. Officer Okoh, an adept investigator, takes on the challenge, unraveling a plot with unexpected twists.”

March 8

Insecure

Efa Iwara and Beverly Naya star in Insecure, a psychological drama directed by Benn Nwokike and produced by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed. When a devoted wife helps her husband build a thriving art gallery, their seemingly perfect life is disrupted by a captivating woman. As she grapples with heartbreak and betrayal, she must also confront her own insecurities and embark on a desperate quest for justice. Also starring Ade Laoye, Demi Banwo, Michael Ejoor, Darasimi Nadi, Tunbosun Aiyedehin, and Tope Olowoniyan, Insecure will be in cinemas.

Different Strokes

Director Biodun Stephen heads to Prime Video with another 2023 film. This time, Different Strokes, produced by Mosun Filani. The film follows the story of four friends who share one goal and an unwavering commitment to achieve it. However, they realise their aspiration requires more than just a shared goal.

Japa!

Japa! follows the story of Mezu (played by Jidekene Achufusi), a disillusioned teacher, whose attempts to relocate from Nigeria to the United States in search of greener pastures are obstructed by forces beyond his comprehension. Directed by Isioma Osaje (producer of Up North, The Set Up and New Money) in her feature directorial debut, Japa! stars Adesua Etomi Wellington, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Seun Ajayi, Layi Wasabi and Mofe Duncan. The film will be available on Prime Video.

Where The Heck is My Period

Ama Psalmist’s Where The Heck is My Period is a documentary that highlights and raises PCOS struggles in affected women. The documentary is written and produced by Stephanie Coker Aderinokun, Abdul Tijani Ahmed and Amba Idongesit, premiering on Prime Video in this month of International Women’s celebration.

A Taste of Sin

A Taste of Sin is a 2023 Ghanaian movie heading to Netflix this month. The film stars Jackie Appiah, Majid Michel, James Gardiner, Kalsoume Sinare, Roselyn Ngissah, Kofi Adjorlolo, and Akosua Agyepong.

The Kujus Again

Originally a theatrical release in 2023, the sequel to, Introducing the Kujus, the 2020 Biodun Stephen film will now be available on Prime Video. In this installment, the clan is back to plan and celebrate a wedding.

Dead of Night

Directed by Chiemeka Osuagwu in a surprise release by Showmax, Dead of Night is a horror film set in the quiet Ekeoba village, and follows the robbery plan of three teenage girls, which takes a terrifying turn when they become trapped in an abandoned mansion with dark secrets. Haunted by mysterious forces, they must navigate a horror labyrinth to escape the clutches of Onwu, an evil entity determined to claim their souls.

Beast of Two Worlds (Ajakaju)

Eniola Ajao teams up with Anthill Studios for this latest Yoruba epic film heading to cinemas in Easter. Beast of Two Worlds looks at the life of a desperate king facing banishment due to his wives’ inability to produce a son. He takes a new wife from another world who promises him an heir but her arrival brings unforeseen chaos to the kingdom forcing the king to confront his fears and fight to secure his dynasty’s future. Beast of Two Worlds stars Odunlade Adekola, Sola Sobowale, Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Mercy Aigbe, Fathia Balogun and Bimbo Akintola.

Afamefuna

One of Kayode Kasum’s 2023 films, Afamefuna, will now be available on Netflix. The Nwa Boi Story is a mix of murder, romance and mystery set within the world of the Igbo apprenticeship system. The cast includes Kanayo O. Kanayo, Stan Nze, Alexx Ekubo, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, Segun Arinze, with appearances from Jide Kene Achufusi, and Noble Igwe.

Heart of the Hunter

Heart of the Hunter is a South African thriller set to premiere on Netflix. Adapted from a book, Heart of the Hunter is set in a post-democratic South Africa where one man’s mission to save his family escalates into a fight to stop a corrupt politician from taking the presidential seat. With Bonko Khoza as the lead and Mandlakayise Walter Dube (Silverton Siege) as director, the film also stars Connie Ferguson, Masasa Mbangeni, Tim Theron, Deon Coetzee, Peter Butler, Sisanda Henna and Connie Chiume.

Vanity

Vanity is a 2022 marriage drama starring Uzor Arukwe and Jemima Osunde. It will now be available to stream on Prime Video. It follows the story of a young bride who battles adjustment into a new life and prenatal depression with a selfish husband by her side.

The Bride Price

Originally released in cinemas in 2023, The Bride Price stars Nkem Owoh, Zubby Michael, Juliana Olayode, and Funnybone. It tells the story of a spare parts dealer who cuts off his wife’s family from their lives after he was made to pay a heavy dowry for her. The Bride Price will now be available on Prime Video.

March 30

Kill Boro

Set in Azuama, a rustic town by the river, Courage Obayuwana’s Kill Boro is a gritty tale of redemption and sacrifice starring Ini Dima-Okojie, Philip Asaya, Kosisochukwu Ogboruche, Greg Ojefua, Hilda Dokubo and Brutus Richard.

Kill Boro is the 4th release from a slate of 12 films directed by first-time directors of the First Features
Project. Previous releases in the slate of films are Prosper Edesiri’s CAKE, Korede Azeez’s It Blooms in June and Reuben Reng’s Love & Life. Kill Boro will be available on Prime Video from May 30 (newest date).

Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre

Saro returns in a sequel series by Kunle Afolayan. In a race against time to avoid a dismal fate, traveler Saro returns to the Oyo kingdom with orders to complete a nearly impossible task. Returning key cast members are Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, and Eyiyemi Afolayan. New cast members include Owobo Ogunde, Layi Wasabi, Lateef Adedimeji and Gabriel Afolayan. Written by Sola Dada, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre will be available on Netflix.

Blood and Water S4

Puleng and Fiks try to move on during their senior year, but the past pits them against each other when they discover that they’re still being targeted. South African series Blood and Water returns with a 4th season on Netflix.

Ebuka Turns Up Africa

Ebuka Turns Up Africa is a 4-part travel reality series starring Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and his friends, Timini Egbuson, Zubby Michael, Jimmie Akinsola, Onoja Adole, and Alistair Englebert Preston. Episodes 1 & 2 of Ebuka Turns Up Africa arrive on Prime Video on 1st March and Episodes 3 & 4 on 8th March 2024.

When three childhood best friends pull a prank that goes wrong, they invent the imaginary Ricky Stanicky to get them out of trouble. Twenty years later, they still use the nonexistent Ricky as a handy alibi for their immature behavior. Ricky Stanicky will be available on Prime Video.

Damsel

Millie Bobby Brown stars in Damsel as a dutiful damsel who agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive. This marks Millie Bobby Brown’s next Netflix outing since Stranger Things and Enola Holmes.

Irish Wish

When the love of her life gets engaged to her best friend, Maddie (Lindsay Lohan) puts her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at their wedding in Ireland. Until a spontaneous wish for true love causes her to wake up as the bride-to-be. The rom-com will be available on Netflix.

Shirley

Regina King stars as Shirley Chisholm in SHIRLEY, the first Black congresswoman and her trailblazing run for president of the United States. The film chronicles Chisholm’s audacious, boundary-breaking 1972 presidential campaign, to be available on Netflix.

Kung Fu Panda 4

The animated comedy adventure film is back with a fourth installment, in cinemas. After Po is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new Dragon Warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.

The Martian

2015 SciFi film The Martian starring Matt Damon in the titular role will be available on Netflix.

March 23

Belfast

Belfast is a 2021 drama directed by Kenneth Branagh. It follows a young boy and his working-class Belfast family’s experience in the tumultuous late 1960s. Nigerian cinematographer Yinka Edward is credited as a second unit DOP on the project, now set to be available on Netflix.

March 25

Retribution

When a mysterious caller puts a bomb under his car seat, Matt Turner (Liam Neeson) begins a high-speed chase across the city to complete a specific series of tasks. With his kids trapped in the back seat and a bomb that will explode if they get out of the car, a normal commute becomes a twisted game of life or death as Matt follows the stranger’s increasingly dangerous instructions in a race against time to save his family. Retribution is a 2023 film that will be available on Showmax.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

The cinematic Monsterverse of Godzilla and Kong heats up once again with this follow-up to the 2021 film Godzilla vs Kong. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.
