Submissions

As an inspired writer, you can submit a written piece of your choice to be published.

A paid article solely belongs to What Kept Me Up and can not be published on other sites. You retain writing credits. Each submission is assessed by the editorial room. Our rates are between 7,000 naira to 20,000 naira, determined by not just the length of the submission but the quality and timeliness.


Short articles

  • 250-700 words
  • Writers are asked to submit a 50-100 word synopsis, summary or pitch, with completed work to be submitted upon approval.

Long-form articles, essays, and analysis

  • 700-1500 words
  • Writers are asked to submit a 50-100 word synopsis, summary or pitch, with completed work to be submitted upon approval.

Tips:

  1. Listicles are listed items on any chosen topic with a brief introduction: ranked items, recommendations, etc.
  2. Analysis/Breakdown: delving deeper and reading between the lines. These are mostly things that have not been presented directly through the story. Often appear through fashion, music choice, themes, editing, characterization etc. 750-1500 words
  3. Opinion/Feature articles: based on trending topics making rounds in the industry. This would be in the form of a discussion or comment to a statement that was made by someone in the industry which has generated public chitchat. Such as cinema vs. streaming services, the rise of superhero content, AMVCA saga, etc 750-1500 words
  4. Interviews/profiles of film industry figures.
