Wizkid Documentary ‘Wizkid: Long Live Lagos’ to World Premiere at Tribeca 2025

Tribeca Festival has announced that Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, a feature documentary on Nigerian music icon Wizkid, will make its world premiere at the 2025 edition of the festival, running from 4–15 June in New York City. The film will screen as part of the Spotlight+ section, Tribeca’s programme that pairs film premieres with live events, conversations, or performances that bring the cinematic experience beyond the screen.

Directed by Karam Gill and produced by Gill alongside Daniel Malikyar, Long Live Lagos charts Wizkid’s journey from Lagos to global superstardom. The synopsis reads, From Lagos to London, this powerful documentary follows Wizkid’s rise as a global icon reshaping how Africa is seen — and heard — around the world. Blending intimate moments, explosive performances, and cultural commentary, the film captures how Wizkid is using his platform to change perceptions, reclaim African identity, and inspire a new generation.

Expected to feature in the documentary are Afrobeat legend Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, Wizkid’s longtime manager and partner Jada Pollock, British media personality Julie Adenuga, music executive Seni Saraki (a co-producer on the project), manager Sunday Are, stylist Matthew Temitope, and A&R executive Solomon Karen.

Following its screening, Long Live Lagos will be accompanied by a special live conversation with Wizkid and director Karam Gill.

The film adds to a robust slate of music-focused titles premiering at Tribeca this year, including works featuring Miley Cyrus (a visual album), Metallica, Billy Idol, and Depeche Mode. Nigerian psychological thriller The Weekend also premiered at the festival last year, marking a continued presence of Nigeria at the festival.

Director Karam Gill previously worked on documentaries about Lil Baby and Tekashi 6ix9ine. He is also known for directing music videos for artistes such as Marshmello.

Wizkid: Long Live Lagos is an HBO Documentary Films release.
