Son of the Soil

Son of the Soil tells the story of Zion Ladejo, a former Nigerian Special Operations soldier who returns home after his sister is killed. Back in his community, he finds it controlled by a violent drug cartel. Determined to get justice, he takes on the criminals responsible and begins to uncover wider corruption. 

Directed by Chee Keong Cheung and co-written by Cheung and Razaaq Adoti, who also plays Zion. Supporting cast includes Patience Ozokwor, Iretiola Doyle, Damilola Ogunsi, Emeka Golden, Philip Asaya, and Sharon Rotimi. The action drama premiered at AFRIFF 2025, where it won the Audience Choice Awards before its theatrical release. Now available to stream on Netflix.

Mother’s Love

In Mother’s Love, a young woman named Adebisi leaves her sheltered upbringing to begin her NYSC year and discovers independence, new relationships, and the realities of life. Her journey strains her family ties, especially with her mother, Labake, whose own past and deep commitment to protecting her daughter complicate their relationship. Directed by Omotola Jalade‑Ekeinde in her directorial debut, she stars as Labake, with Noray Nehita, Ifeanyi Kalu, Lilian Afegbai, Nosa Rex, and Olumide Oworu. Mother’s Love will be released in Nigerian cinemas.

Onobiren

Written and executive produced by Laju Iren, Onobiren tells the story of Roli, a young woman from Warri whose journey to Lagos challenges tradition and expectation. Directed by Famous Iraoya with performances from Ruby Akubueze, Patience Ozokwor, Deyemi Okanlawon, Bisola Aiyeola, Norbert Young, Desmond Bryce, and Chude Jideonwo. Onobiren premieres in cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana. 

March 13

Headless

Written and directed by Michael W. Ndiomu, Headless follows a film producer who is arrested after a human head is discovered in his car during a police stop. He claims innocence, but the case opens up questions about crime, influence, and hidden dealings within powerful circles. Starring Gideon Okeke, Uzoamaka Power, Baaj Adebule, Iremide Adeoye, Ruby Okezie and Segun Arinze, the thriller premiered as the opening film at AFRIFF 2024 and will now be available in cinemas nationwide.

Aba Blues

Set in the 1960s, Aba Blues centres on a married woman whose past returns when a former lover comes back into her life. His presence unsettles her marriage and brings old emotions to the surface. Jack’enneth Opukeme (Farmer’s Bride) directs the drama produced by Barbara Babarinsa and starring Angel Anosike, Jide Kene Achufusi, and Prince Nelson Enwerem. Aba Blues premieres in cinemas via FilmOne distribution. 

Irete: The Reckoning

A quiet community is thrown into turmoil when past promises and hidden secrets begin to surface. As unresolved issues return, relationships break down and tensions rise among families and long-time allies. The story focuses on accountability, consequences, and the cost of choices that were once ignored. Directed and produced by Segun Ogungbe, the epic stars Faithia Williams, Sola Sobowale, Dele Odule, Deyemi Okanlawon, and Femi Adebayo. Coming to cinemas nationwide.

Evi

Written and directed by Uyoyou Adia, Evi follows a talented but proud Afrobeats singer (Osas Okonyon) whose life changes suddenly when her record label ends her contract without notice or support. Stripped of fame and income, she takes small jobs and performs in lounges while trying to rebuild her career.

Produced by Judith Audu Productions in collaboration with Switch Visuals Productions, more cast includes Uzor Arukwe, Omowunmi Dada, Ibrahim Suleiman, Waje Iruobe, Tomiwa Tegbe, and Femi Branch. The Afrobeat musical is set to hit cinemas across Nigeria.

Sticks and Stones

Sticks and Stones tells the story of love, family, friendships, identity, and the difficult conversations that can change everything. Written, directed, and produced by Lota Chukwu, the five-part anthology series stars Ireti Doyle, Bimbo Manuel, Stan Nze, Teniola Aladese, Meg Otanwa, Uzor Arukwe, Femi Branch, Chimezie Imo, Kelechi Udegbe, and Tope Olowoniyan. Law, Love and Betrayal S2

Season 2 returns to Gugu Mabaso’s life as the pressure at Gumede & Associates intensifies. Now more experienced but still fighting for her place, Gugu faces new legal battles that threaten both her career and personal relationships. The power struggles within the firm grow sharper, and secrets from the Gumede family continue to shape decisions inside and outside the courtroom.

Dineo Rasedile reprises her role as Gugu Mabaso, alongside Nimrod Nkosi as Gatsha Gumede and Pearl Modiadie as Ayanda Gumede-Williams. The series is created and executive produced by Thandi Ramathesele, with returning directors including Nthabiseng Tau and Christo Davids. Adapted from a Charles Huston novel and set in 1990s New York, Caught Stealing follows a former baseball player pulled into the city’s criminal underworld after a simple favour spirals out of control. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, Austin Butler leads the cast alongside Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, and Matt Smith. The 2025 crime thriller will be available on Netflix.

The Alabama Solution

Produced by HBO Documentary Films, The Alabama Solution examines the prison system in Alabama, focusing on overcrowding, violence, and federal intervention. It looks at the impact of policy decisions on inmates and corrections officers, drawing from interviews and real-life footage. Directed by Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman, the documentary premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival before airing on HBO Documentary Films. Now streaming on Showmax.

March 6

Hoppers

Pixar’s Hoppers follows Mabel, a young animal lover who signs up for an unusual scientific experiment that allows her to transfer her mind into a robotic beaver. Through this new body, she enters the animal world and sees firsthand the threats facing their habitat. Soon after, she starts a fight to protect the environment from human development plans. Directed by Daniel Chong, voice cast includes Piper Curda as Mabel, alongside Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm. Hoppers is set for a nationwide theatrical release.

The Bride

Set in 1930s Chicago, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s take on the Frankenstein story follows a young woman (Jessie Buckley) brought back to life by an ambitious scientist (Christian Bale). She is created to be a companion for a lonely monster, but once she opens her eyes to the world, she begins to think for herself. Also starring Annette Bening and Penelope Cruz, The Bride will be released in cinemas nationwide. 

War Machine

A group of U.S. Army Ranger recruits are close to finishing a brutal training program when their final exercise turns into a real fight for survival. Their routine mission quickly becomes something far more dangerous as they face an unexpected enemy. Directed by Patrick Hughes, Alan Ritchson stars alongside Dennis Quaid, Jai Courtney and Stephen James. Available on Netflix.

Transformers One

Set long before the Autobots and Decepticons became enemies, the story focuses on the early friendship between Optimus Prime and Megatron on Cybertron. Directed by Josh Cooley, the animated film features the voices of Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime and Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, including Scarlett Johansson and Keegan-Michael Key. Nobody 2

Hutch Mansell tries to keep life calm after the violent events that exposed his past. He returns to routine work and family time, but the quiet doesn’t last. The Blackening

Expanding on a Comedy Central sketch, a Juneteenth weekend reunion turns deadly when a group of friends finds themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a masked killer forcing them into a twisted game. Directed by Tim Story, the comedy-horror film stars Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Sinqua Walls, and Antoinette Robertson. Available to stream on Netflix.

Project Hail Mary

Adapted from Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, Project Hail Mary places a lone astronaut at the centre of a desperate mission to save Earth from extinction. Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who awakens aboard a spacecraft with no memory of how he arrived there. Slowly, he remembers he was sent on a last-chance mission to stop a mysterious organism draining the sun’s energy. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the space film premieres in cinemas.

Pretty Lethal

They Will Kill You 

Set in New York, the story follows a young woman (Zazie Beets) who takes a job at a luxury high-rise building, only to discover strange and frightening events tied to the residents. As fear spreads, she realises the danger may be closer than she first thought. Directed by Kirill Sokolov, the psychological horror is available to watch in cinemas.

One Three Hill

Young Sherlock 

Directed by Guy Ritchie, Young Sherlock follows a teenage Sherlock Holmes who starts to develop his legendary detective skills while tackling his first major murder case during his university years in the 1870s. Starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Sherlock, Donal Finn as young James Moriarty, the procedural series will premiere on Prime Video.

Vladimir 

Rachel Weisz stars as a professor whose fascination with Vladimir spirals into obsession, threatening her career and life. The psychological drama also features John Slattery, Ellen Robertson and Jessica Henwick with direction from Berman & Pulcini. Streaming on Netflix.

Boyfriend on Demand

Boyfriend on Demand stars Jisoo as Seo Mi‑rae, a webtoon producer overwhelmed by work, who signs up for a virtual dating service that offers customised digital partners. As her involvement deepens, her simulated romantic life begins to affect her real one, prompting emotional shifts she didn’t expect. The Dinosaurs

Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the four-part documentary series tells the story of dinosaurs from their rise to their extinction. It shows how they ruled the earth for millions of years, how they survived harsh changes in climate, and what may have caused their sudden end. Streaming on Netflix.

Virgin River S7

Virgin River returns for its seventh season on Netflix, focusing on Mel Monroe, a nurse practitioner, and Jack Sheridan, a veteran and bar owner, who are adjusting to life as newlyweds. Love & Death 

Based on the book “Evidence of Love” and real events, the true‑crime miniseries dramatises a notorious 1980 murder in Wylie, Texas, where suburban housewife Candy Montgomery (Elizabeth Olsen) was tried for killing her friend Betty Gore after an affair with Betty’s husband, Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons). Coming to Netflix. 

March 18

Invincible S4

Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) is still trying to juggle life as a teen and a superhero in the newest chapter of The Invincibles. Season 4 continues his struggle to protect Earth while carrying the weight of his father’s legacy and the damage left behind by the Viltrumites. Created by Robert Kirkman, J.K. Ted S2

Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black S2

Bait charts four chaotic days in the life of Shah Latif, a struggling London actor who gets what seems like his biggest opportunity yet. Instead of breaking through, the situation sends his life spinning out of control as his family, ex‑partner, and the public all weigh in on his chances, his identity, and what it means to succeed. Riz Ahmed stars as Shah and also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Supporting cast includes Guz Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Ritu Arya, Aasiya Shah, Sajid Hasan, and Weruche Opia. Heartbreak High

The students at Hartley High are facing their last days at school and big decisions about what comes next.
