Prominent Nigerian movie executive and co-founder of Inkblot Productions, Zulumoke Oyibo, has embarked on a new phase of her career by making her debut as a director. The trailer (see below) for Oyibo’s directorial debut The Betrayed has just been released with the film set to start screening in cinemas nationwide from August 2nd.

Oyibo, a renowned producer, sits in the director’s chair for the first time in her storied career; assembling a stellar and talented cast including Uche Montana, Gabriel Afolayan, and Ibrahim Suleiman. The lineup also includes Adunni Ade, Jemima Osunde, Vine Olugu, and Stephanie Zibili to help bring the script, written by Chinaza Onuzo and Tosan Ayanfulu, to life.

The film promises an unforgettable cinematic experience as it explores the consequences of betrayal and succumbing to one’s darkest desires.

Oyibo’s directorial move adds to the collective achievements of the Inkblot founding trio, with Chinaza Onuzo directing Who’s The Boss? in 2020 and Damola Ademola making his directorial debut with A Weekend To Forget in 2023. This audacious step into directing demonstrates Oyibo’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of Nigerian cinema, promising an innovative and unique approach to filmmaking.

A former practicing lawyer who now possesses more than a decade’s experience as a movie executive and producer before her directorial debut, Oyibo is not new to trying new things and she is excited and confident that the new movie would connect with audiences.

“Directing The Betrayed has been a journey into the heart of human connections, exploring themes of betrayal and friendship,” said Zulumoke Oyibo in a statement. “From the message it is trying to pass across, through the intensity of the script and working with the amazing cast, this is truly a dream project for me. I cannot wait for all Nigerians to see this important and timely story,” she enthused.

Filming of the suspense-packed movie began in February 2024 around critical locations in Lagos. According to the producers, the ramp-up to the release of the movie in cinemas nationwide will come with different activities to sensitize society to the key messages within the film.
