Disney, this past week, released more details about their upcoming streaming service known as Disney Plus or Disney+, depending on how lazy you are. I am not going to lie, I am so jealous on Netflix’s behalf. Disney+ would be fully stacked with beloved content from Disney’s past and exciting new projects for the future, that’s also filled with reboots(High School Musical), sequels (Monsters at work), prequels (Loki) and some new stories to get excited for. Disney+ will be launching on November 12 in the US at an attractable price of just 7 dollars a month.
These are all just steps to woo customers away from Netflix at kickoff. Disney+ would be looking to expand to important regions in the world over the next two years. With Netflix making efforts to bulk up their original content library over the last few years, knowing they won’t have licensed content forever, they have still not been able to build half of what Disney has since their start. Damn! This is going to get smokey.
Disney would be hoping to use their family friendly profile to get their way into homes and our lives. Netflix currently planing a price increase to set in in May, while Disney+ is debuting at an affordable price, the people over at the Big N must be feeling confident about the landscape of streaming and being front-runners. This would be a war of ‘Family Friendliness’ vs ‘Risk-taking’. Netflix is ready to be family friendly, when need be. Disney do not take risks. They do not. Library is basically filled with reboots and old ‘sure banker’ adaptations, with very few originals. So, who are you betting on?
It’s the consumers like myself I feel for. Peak TV era would be entering a new phase come 2020. New gears, new wars, new speed. Brace yourselves. I have braced myself, cos I’ll be watching all that’s on offer. What future do you see for Netflix, Disney and other upcoming streaming services like WarnerMedia? I left out AppleTV for a reason. Ask me why in the DMs ;).
Bis Bald!
