Corn kernels and firearms are getting ready to pop as Red Circle, a crime thriller, is set to premiere in cinemas on June 6, 2025. Directed by Akay Mason and produced by Nora Awolowo and Abdul Tijani-Ahmed (also a writer on the project), the film follows Fikayo Holloway, played by Folu Storms, an investigative journalist whose pursuit of a powerful crime syndicate in Lagos puts her life at risk. As she uncovers dangerous secrets, she must decide how far she is willing to go in her search for the truth.
Joining Folu Storms are Bukky Wright (most recently in Something About The Briggs), Timini Egbuson, Tobi Bakre, Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Branch, Omowunmi Dada, Mike Afolarin, Ruggedman, Debo Macaroni, and Ibrahim Suleiman. Known for Showmax’s Crime and Justice: Lagos and Unmarried, Storms, in the leading role, takes on one of her most complex roles yet in this film.
With Red Circle, Nora Awolowo, who started as a smartphone photographer and slowly built a career in filmmaking, focusing extensively on documentaries, adds to her cinematography role as a producer and executive producer through her company, Rixel Studios—the production house behind Guinness’ documentary film, Shine. With her biggest project so far as co-DOP on Lisabi films, her transition to feature films began as the Director of Photography on Dr. Sid’s The Order of Things.
Set against the backdrop of Lagos’ media and entertainment industry, Red Circle touches on themes of crime, corruption, and the risks of investigative journalism. With distribution through Nile Entertainment, the film will join titles like Wives on Strike: The Uprising and Everybody Loves Jenifa, which have reached audiences worldwide through their global releases.
As June 6 approaches, Rixel Studios and Nile Distribution are rolling out a promotional campaign, with early screenings planned in select cities and an upcoming presale ticket launch, an initiative led by Nile, which previously handled the presale tickets for Wives on Strike: The Uprising and Everybody Loves Jenifa and is set to do the same for Lordtanner’s adventure title The Artifact.

Director Akay Mason, known for Elevator Baby and Day of Destiny, and Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, with writing credits on Brotherhood and Skinny Girl in Transit, alongside Awolowo form the Red Circle Team standing out as a group of young filmmakers achieving this feat with a theatrical release of this scale.
