Netflix has revealed the cast for its next big budget adaptation, Sandman, by Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Good Omens). According to The Hollywood Reporter when the series order was made last year, “The drama, from Warner Bros. TV, landed at the streamer with what sources describe as a massive financial commitment and DC Entertainment’s most-expensive TV foray ever.”

Tom Sturridge will lead the series based on Gaiman’s DC Comics, playing Dream, the Lord of the Dreaming. Gwendoline Christie co-stars as Lucifer, Ruler of Hell. Other faces include Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeeve Bhaskar.

Netflix’s synopsis:

“A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”

Vivienne Acheampong will be playing Lucienne, chief Librarian and trusted guardian of Dream’s realm.
Charles Dance features as Roderick Burgess, a charlatan, blackmailer and magician.
Asim Chaudhry is Abel and Sanjeev Bhaskar is Cain, The first victim and the first predator respectively.
Boyd Holbrook plays The Corinthian, escaped nightmare.

Netflix promises more news from the Sandman is soon to come. As Gaiman himself tweeted, “Seven down, hundreds to go.”

There have been multiple attempts to adapt the series since the 90s. It seems like this is the moment we are finally going to see it on our screens.
