The Nigerian Official Selection Committee for Oscars Opens 2023 Submissions (Important Dates)

NOSC’s green light for International Feature Film submission has us buzzing with excitement! According to the committee’s website, the call for entry opened on Friday, 25th August and will close on Thursday, 14th September.

Here are other important dates to note as we keep track of Nigeria’s selection for the International Feature Film Category at the 96th Academy Awards, taking place in 2024:

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee Opens Submissions for 97th Oscars (Important Dates)


Submission Window to the NOSC*

August 25 – September 14, 2023.

(Your film should have screened between Dec 1, 2022 – Oct 31, 2023, amongst other rules on the NOSC website)

NOSC Voting Day*

Sunday, 17th September, 2023

An announcement will be made to the selected film producer/production company on Monday, 18th September 2023

Academy Submission Deadline 

Monday, October 2, 2023. (5 p.m. PT)

Two rounds of voting will take place by the Academy:

Firstly, to decide on a shortlist of 15 titles.

Then another round of voting to decide a list of 5 titles that shall become the nominations for final voting for the International Feature Film award.

Tuesday, January 23, 2024

96th Academy Awards Night

March 10, 2024

For Academy Awards purposes, the country will be credited as the nominee. The director’s name will be listed on the statuette plaque after the country and film title.
