- Oloture: The Journey
In this sequel to Kenneth Gyang’s 2019 film Oloture, an undercover journalist (Sharon Ooja) fights to regain her freedom after becoming a victim of the same human trafficking network she set out to investigate. The limited series also features Omoni Oboli, Beverly Osu, Daniel Etim Effiong, and Bucci Franklin, among others. It is available on Netflix.
- Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre
To repay his debt to death, Saro (Kunle Remi)—the olden-days loverboy from Anikulapo (2022)—must reclaim the 20 souls he raised from the dead or risk becoming a restless spirit. Actors like Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, and Taiwo Hassan reprise their roles in this six-episode epic fantasy directed by Kunle Afolayan, besides new additions like Lateef Adedimeji, Gabriel Afolayan, and Uzee Usman. - Cheta’M
James Omokwe’s epic Igbo telenovela, Cheta’M (2024), draws us into the love story of Adanna (Oluchi Amajuoyi) and Nnanna (Kingsley Nwachukwu), as tensions rise between the ancient kingdoms of Mgberi and Ajaani. Add a strong dose of political intrigue with the supernatural, and you’ll end up with 130 episodes of an oddly captivating show that can be streamed on Showmax.
- Agu
A murder case sets a father, Barrister Etim Inyang (Kanayo O. Kanayo), and his estranged daughter, Victoria Ameh (Ruby Okezie), on opposite sides of a courtroom in Anis Halloway’s six-part legal series, Agu (2023). But things take an eerie turn when Inyang’s client, Pius (Nonso Odogwu), insists that juju played a role in his crime.

- Wura
Wura Amoo-Adeleke (Scarlett Gomez) isn’t just the “perfect” wife and mother, she’s also the ruthless CEO of Frontline Gold Mine. How far will she go when her fierce ambitions and hidden secrets try to unravel everything she has built?
All three seasons of this remake of the South African soap opera The River—directed by Dimeji Ajibola, Adeola Osunkojo, Yemi Morafa, Ben Chiadika, and Philemon Maigari—are currently streaming on Showmax.
- Beyond the Veil
Nadine Ibrahim’s Beyond the Veil (2023 – 2024) follows five connected Muslim women—Hanifa (Maryam Booth), Na’ima (Jemima Osunde), Badriya, also known as Baddie (Norah Ego), Zainab, or Zizi (Ame Aiyejina), and Surrayah (Habiba Tanko)—as they seek happiness in their personal lives and careers while navigating the cultural complexities of Northern Nigeria. It isn’t easy though; Hanifa is facing problems in her marriage, Na’ima struggles with mental illness, Baddie is obsessed with social media, Zizi might be falling in love with her boss’s son, and Surrayah is divorced. - Postcards
When Bunmi (Sola Sobowale)—a socialite who likes to keep up appearances even when she can’t afford it—travels to India for surgery, her wealthy but grumpy brother, Olumide (Richard Mofe Damijo), hosts her. She’s happy to find out that her doctor, Siddharth, is married to a Nigerian woman, Zainab (Rahama Sadau). But she doesn’t know that her son, Yemi (Tobi Bakre), is also in India after landing a role in a Bollywood film. With Postcards (2024), Hamisha Daryani Ahuja (Namaste Wahala) gives us a unique taste of Nigerian-Indian fusion in six episodes. You can watch it on Netflix.
- Flawsome
Tola Odunsi’s Flawsome revolves around four ambitious BFFs—Ifeyinwa (Bisola Aiyeola), Ramat (Ini Dima-Okojie), Ivie (Sharon Ooja), and Dolapo (Enado Odigie)—who lean on one another as they tackle personal and career challenges. Ifeyinwa is an heiress who is shocked to discover that she’s not her father’s chosen successor; Ramat is “happily married,” but her perfect life hides deeper struggles; Ivie faces the costs of leaving her medical background for fashion; and Dolapo is focused on climbing the corporate ladder. - The Men’s Club
In The Men’s Club (2018 – 2024), Tola Odunsi explores male friendship through four characters: Aminu (Pere Egbi replaced Ayoola Ayolola in Season 4), Lanre (Daniel Etim Effiong), Louis (Baaj Adebule), and Tayo (Efa Iwara). Aminu’s wealth complicates his love life; Lanre gets involved with an older woman despite having a girlfriend; Louis—a laid-back Casanova—is pushed into an arranged marriage; and unhappily married Tayo struggles with infidelity.
The fifth season, The Men’s Club: New Gen, premieres on December 4 with new characters: Kashope (Saga Deolu), Francis (Chuks Joseph), Tokini (Paul Nnadiekwe), and Obinna (David Eyo). Watch it on Prime Video.
- Inside Life
Set in Lagos, Clarence Peters’ Inside Life (2022) explores dark sides of society through the intertwined lives of characters like Ade (Abiola Kazeem), a medical student who is jailed for a crime he didn’t commit; Itohan (Tonia Chukwurah), a young woman facing abuse at the hands of her stepfather; and Gift (Chisom Egu), a video vixen who falls prey to human trafficking when she goes for an audition. This six-part supernatural thriller delivers a gritty story of good guys who almost never win. It premiered on Netflix in October 2024.
- Last Year Single
Omoni Oboli’s Last Year Single (2024) follows three friends who desperately want to fix their love lives and secure marital bliss. Belinda (Omoni Oboli) is a successful businesswoman who is bitter after a failed relationship. Tamara (Toni Tones) has been engaged for seven years, but her fiancé’s unfaithfulness forces her to choose between loyalty and self-respect, and Afua (Bimbo Ademoye) is an architect-turned-blogger, chasing fame and romance. All 13 episodes are available on Netflix.
- The Smart Money Woman
The Smart Money Woman (2020) is an adaptation of Arese Ugwu’s novel of the same name that follows Zuri (Osas Ighodaro) and her four best friends—Tami (Ini Dima-Okojie), Lara (Toni Tones), Adesuwa (Kemi Lala Akindoju), and Ladun (Ebenezer Eno)—as they juggle life, love, and their finances. Directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye, the series explores friendship and the financial cost of societal expectations, with practical tips on how to invest in oneself, even in the face of romantic and financial setbacks. When Zara (Onyinye Odokoro) wins the Lawson Group’s Leading Ladies reality show, she gains money and fame for the first time in her life. Then she accepts a job at the same company that turned her life around and suddenly finds herself in the ruthless world of corporate politics and power struggles, with a cutthroat CEO (Bimbo Manuel) who uses her as a pawn in his game.
Princess on a Hill (2024), created by Abiola Sobo and Tolu Ajayi, premiered on Showmax on November 7, with new episodes released every Thursday.

This Igala drama series follows Omera (Desmond Bryce), a young man whose ambition spirals into greed and pushes him to the brink of financial ruin. Unexpectedly, he receives a chance to manage an NGO in a village. Now, he must unravel a web of deception to overcome his challenges and turn his life around. Femi Ogunsanwo’s Omera (2024) also stars Akin Lewis, Baaj Adebule, and Kingsley Nwachukwu, among others. It premiered on Africa Magic and is also available on Showmax.
- Italo
After 15 years, Esosa (Angela Eguavoen) returns to Nigeria to marry the man of her dreams. But she finds herself facing obstacles that threaten to reveal her painful past as a prostitute in Italy. Adeola Osunkojo’s Italo (2024) also features Henry Iyobosa Legemah, Frankincense Eche-Ben, and Zara Udofia Ejoh, among others. It premiered on Africa Magic Showcase and is now available on Showmax.
- My Fairytale Wedding
My Fairytale Wedding (2024) is a rom-com about Mojisola (Ini Edo), a 29-year-old woman seeking love. In her desperation, she turns to Madame Fantasia (Shaffy Bello) for the mystical power of Kanyamata. Then, she catches the eye of the most eligible bachelor in Lagos, and things begin to fall apart. Directed by Dimeji Ajibola (and from the makers of Shanty Town), the Africa Magic limited series, a part of an expected trilogy, also features Ramsey Nouah, Kanayo O Kanayo, Carolina Hutchings, Mercy Eke, and more. - Visa on Arrival
Edem Victor’s Visa on Arrival is a comedy series revolving around the shenanigans of fictional immigration officers who handle visa applications based on their whims. Okoro (Temisan Emmanuel), the bribe collector; Charity (Oluwatoyin “Tomama/Datwarrigirl” Albert), the religious zealot; Francis (Bovi Ugboma), the self-centered officer; and other guest characters—including several hilarious visa applicants—make this satirical show outstanding.
