Deyemi Okanlawon plays the titular Hakeem in Hakeem Seeking Justice, a new action thriller written by Bello and Leo Oji, with themes of justice and resilience. The official trailer’s logline reads, “When the system fails, one man rises,” setting the tone for one man’s fight against a broken system. Joining Okanlawon in the cast lineup are Kunle Remi, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Regina Daniels, Gabriel Afolayan, Zubby Michael, Ali Nuhu, Liquorose, and music star Skales, who makes his acting debut in the film.
One of Bello’s most successful projects, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, co-directed with Funke Akindele, grossed ₦636.1 million and became the top-grossing Nigerian film of 2020. In between Seeking Justice and Omo Ghetto, JJC co-directed She Must Be Obeyed, a five-part comedy miniseries released on Prime Video in 2023, and directed Jenifa on Lockdown in 2021.
In 2024, he directed My Sunshine, a Korean-Nigerian high school romance series created by Kemi Ikuseedun. The series, which blends English, Yoruba, and Korean languages, was released on YouTube in October 2024 and gained over a million views. Most of Bello’s post-music career in film and television has been rooted in collaborations with Funke Akindele. Hakeem: Seeking Justice stands out as his first major project outside that creative partnership.
Hakeem is produced by JJC alongside Mustapha Mamudu, Harrison Agboifoh and Suleiman Bello for Afristar Media Production, and is set to be distributed by FilmOne, with a nationwide release slated for August 1.
