Canada-based filmmaker Olatunbosun Amao unveils the first look of his newest project Troublous Weekend, his directorial feature debut that treads the dark thriller and horror waters. The story is set to tell the gripping tale of a couple’s weekend getaway and follows mysterious events that force them to fight for their lives from enemies within.

Amao expresses the reason behind the film’s genre and its expectation for its audience, “The idea was to, on one hand, experiment with a mix of thriller and horror genres in a Nollywood story and on the other hand, explore suspense with a plot centering around a single household.”

He further shares that “Troublous Weekend will keep the audience on the edge of their seats, it’s exciting and definitely unforgettable.”

The released first images tease the film’s plot with leads 2022 AMVCA-winning actor Stan Nze (Prophetess) and Anthony Monjaro (The Therapist) in what looks like they have finally come face to face with the dangers lurking around.

Amao is known for leading successful stage productions within and outside Nigeria. He is a co-executive producer of the multiple award-winning feature film Blackmail which is currently set for an unprecedented theatrical release in over 100 cinemas in the UK and Nigeria. In 2022, he released Different Lens, a short film he wrote, produced and directed. The short film has gone on to garner multiple accolades for the filmmaker which include the Jury Award for Best Short in North America at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival, a finalist at the Venice Shorts Festival, California, USA and Semi-Finalist for the Sweden Film Awards, a Sweden Honorable Mention for the Black Truth Film Festival USA.

Troublous Weekend rounded off shooting last December and viewers can expect it soon on a streaming service.
