THE WATER MAN Official Trailer

The Water Man movie, slated for a May 2021 release, is directed and co-produced by David Oyelowo. This will be the veteran actor’s directorial debut  which is a fascinating development in David Oyelowo’s Hollywood career.

The trailer opens with an animated mythology of the water man, arguing for his reality. He still lives by the lake searching the water and the woods for his wife. It shows Gunner (Lonnie Chavis, This is Us), a teenager, reading the myth from a book. The production companies’ logos are presented in a quick series of shots, which ends with the Yoruba Saxon emblem of David and Jessica Oyelowo. Apparently, Gunner’s family has just moved into a new town. His mother (Rosario Dawson, The Mandalorian) is terminally ill and it has affected the family adversely. Gunner sets out with a new friend, Jo (Amiah  Miller, War for the Planet of the Apes) into the woods of this new community to find the water man.

He meets and questions the author of the book from which he read about the water man. This author helps his search and tells him the “woods are alive,” but also warns him of the danger therein. A series of shots show Gunner and Jo struggling through the woods and also having some fun while at it.

Meanwhile, Gunnar’s father, Amos Boone (David Oyelowo, Selma), has embarked on a search for him. The final scenes show that he does find the water man and the trailer ends with a series of frantic events with heightened sfx.

The trailer suggests that the movie will be a fun submission, and by effect, a great debut for David Oyelowo.

The Water Man will be released in the cinemas on May 7, 2021.
