A new independent film screening programme is adding a new twist to existing alternative screening experiences.
After Credits Club will present three mystery short films to audiences in Lagos from October, with the titles kept under wraps until viewers are inside the screening room.
Created by filmmaker Ifedoyin Igbasan, founder and creative director of The Fè Doyin Productions Ltd., ACC is designed around the idea of discovering films without prior exposure to trailers, clips, plot discussions or other promotional material.
The first edition will be held from October 2 to 4 at Cafe One, First Registrars Iganmu, Lagos. Tickets cost 10,000 Naira, with an additional 800 Naira ticketing platform fee.
Each session will host 20 audience members, followed by conversations about the films with makers of the film joining the discussions where possible.
Igbasan said the initiative is an attempt to preserve the sense of curiosity that can be lost when audiences are exposed to extensive material about a film before watching it.
“There are so many BTS videos, trailers and conversations about films before they even come out that sometimes, by the time we watch the film, we already know too much. I want to bring back the pure love of cinema, being able to trust that someone has curated something beautiful for you and simply allowing yourself to discover it.”
Beyond the mystery surrounding the selections, ACC also aims to provide access to films that audiences may not otherwise find on their own.
“The idea is that we are putting good films in front of you that you may otherwise not have been able to see, like on your own,” Igbasan said.
The film lineup is curated through submissions, a process that received 28 entries for its first edition.
Igbasan is an alumna of the EbonyLife Creative Academy. ACC operates under The Fè Doyin Productions Ltd.
