MIP Africa, one of the continent’s biggest events for the film and television industry, is making its return to Cape Town from 1 to 3 September 2025. Held during FAME Week Africa, the event brings together filmmakers, producers, investors, commissioning editors, and creatives from across Africa and beyond. It’s a chance to network, share ideas, and most importantly, make deals that could take creative projects to the next level.

Filmmakers and content creators who want to take part in the Project Pitch Platform — one of MIP Africa’s main highlights — can now submit their ideas online. Submissions are open now and will close on 13 June 2025. A dossier for selected projects will be available on 3 August 2025, with live pitching sessions scheduled to happen during the main event from 1 to 3 September 2025.

The Project Pitch Platform gives storytellers, animators, and creative professionals the chance to pitch their ideas to buyers, investors, and decision-makers looking for fresh content. Whether someone has a simple idea or a project already in production, all genres and formats are welcome.

Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director for FAME Week Africa, says the platform has become a key place for discovering new talent. “If you’re in the film and television industry, FAME Week Africa is the place to gather and do business,” he said. “Each year, more buyers and investors are coming to the show in search of fresh and compelling projects. For creatives seeking funding and partnerships, this is a real opportunity to bring your stories to life.”

According to MIP Africa’s press release, the event has already helped launch successful shows. South African filmmaker Robert dos Santos shared how the pitch sessions led to two of his TV series being picked up. “One series came directly from the 2023 pitching sessions, and the other from 2024. We’re signed, sealed, and already hard at work. MIP Africa has consistently provided an incredible platform — and I’m thrilled to say we’re rocking and rolling because of it,” he said.

In recent FAME Week news, filmmakers are also invited to submit their entries for the upcoming Short Film Festival, scheduled to take place during the FAME Week Africa 2025 edition. Submissions are being accepted via FilmFreeway.

With more industry players attending every year, MIP Africa continues to be a launchpad for African talent and storytelling on a global stage.
