‘Payday’ Director Cheta Chukwu Selected For Torino-Film Lab’s Extended Writer-Director Lab In The Netherlands

Cheta Chukwu, known for his 2018 film Payday, has been selected for Torino-Film Lab’s Extended Writer-Director Lab in The Netherlands. The Film Lab is an advanced training program designed for international professionals and creative teams at the early development stages of their feature film projects “who are willing to dive deep into the writing process through an intensive development workshop”.

This news comes on the heels of announcing his upcoming feature film, Strawberry Chinny, starring Chimezie Imo and Genoveva Umeh, which is set to premiere at the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans from July 4th to July 7th.

As part of the TFL Extended Writer-Director Lab, Cheta Chukwu will be developing his next project, Love is a Deeper Shade of Red. The film follows a devoted housewife who must confront the ultimate betrayal and make a choice between her marriage and morality when her husband brings home a second wife.

The residential workshop will take place from June 20th to 25th in Amsterdam, followed by two months of online sessions. This comprehensive program will provide filmmakers an opportunity to develop their scripts and projects through a series of workshops, online sessions, and one-on-one mentoring with industry professionals and an additional one-time consultancy online.

The TFL Extended – Film 2024 is organised in partnership with the Netherlands Film Fund.
