Cheta Chukwu continues his international strides, with the selection of his war drama Love is a Deeper Shade of Red for the Red Sea Lodge 2025. Organised by the Red Sea Labs in collaboration with the Red Sea International Film Festival, the yearlong development program will support 12 selected projects through intensive creative training and mentorship from industry experts.

This milestone follows Chukwu’s 2024 participation in the Torino Film Lab’s (TFL) Extended Writer-Director Lab in the Netherlands, where Love is a Deeper Shade of Red underwent early-stage script development. An early logline revealed in 2024 tells us that the film follows a devoted housewife who must confront the ultimate betrayal and make a choice between her marriage and morality when her husband brings home a second wife.

Now set to progress through the Red Sea Lodge, the film will receive further creative and professional development, in areas such as script refinement, production strategies, and market positioning. The program culminates with a pitching opportunity at the Red Sea Souk during the Red Sea International Film Festival 2025.

Love is a Deeper Shade of Red is produced by Orwi Manny Ameh (Hello Rain, Tainted Canvas) and executive produced by Shiela Nortley, known for her work on Netflix TV shows Supacell and Stay Close.

Chukwu, previously known for his 2018 feature film Payday, is steadily building his profile on the international circuit. His recent project, Strawberry Chinny, starring Chimezie Imo and Genoveva Umeh, premiered at the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans in July 2024.

This latest selection positions Love is a Deeper Shade of Red for potential co-production and funding opportunities on the global stage.
