Shall We Meet Tonight is a short film that explores the emotional complexities of queer love between two women navigating societal expectations and personal freedom in present-day Nigeria. Directed by Wapah Ezeigwe (known for Country Love) and produced by Vengiance Productions, the film was shot on location in Enugu State and had its world premiere at the 2025 edition of the BFI FLARE LGBTQ+ Film Festival in London, one of the leading international platforms for queer cinema.

At the heart of the story is a woman caught between the quiet intimacy of a same-sex relationship and the obligations of a heterosexual marriage. Starring Goodness Emmanuel (The Griot), Jasperwills Ebuka (Enyo), and Uzoamaka Onuoha (Diiche), Shall We Meet Tonight centres on the emotional toll of living in secrecy and the quiet negotiations individuals make to survive in a society where LGBTQ+ identities remain heavily stigmatised.

Co-produced by British-Nigerian LGBTQ+ activists Bisi Alimi and Lanre Njoku, the film is positioned as both a creative work and a statement of visibility for a community often left out of mainstream Nigerian storytelling. Speaking about the project, director Wapah Ezeigwe describes it as “a testament to the power of storytelling in shifting narratives,” with an emphasis on emotional truth and lived experience.

Njoku highlights the film’s intention to “create spaces for healing” through representation, while Alimi adds that the film reflects “the many untold stories within the LGBTQ+ community—of desire, of fleeting moments that shape us, and of the courage it takes to truly be seen.”

Vengiance Productions, the production company behind the project, is focused on developing socially conscious narratives that challenge the status quo and spotlight underrepresented voices.
