The Shelby’s family journey is officially coming to an end. BBC announced on Monday, 18th January 2021 that Peaky Blinders will end after the 6th season. The BBC/Netflix acclaimed series tells the story of Thomas ‘Tommy’ Shelby’s rise to power in 1900 Birmingham, England. In 2018, it won the BAFTA TV award and BAFTA Craft awards for best drama series.
Created by Steven Knight and starring Cillian Murphy, the drama was aired eight years ago on BBC Two and then came on Netflix a year later. The production of the 6th and final season of Peaky Blinders is currently in motion even as the global pandemic continues. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creator of the series, Steven Knight, said on Monday in a statement, “After the enforced production delay due to the COVID pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.” The form the story will take after its final season as aforementioned by Knight is yet to be known.
The air date for the first episode of the final season is currently unknown. Peaky fans are definitely elated and at the same time sad that the journey is coming to an end or maybe not.
