CJ Obasi’s New Psychological Thriller ‘A Blue Butterfly’ to Star Steve Toussaint and Sanaa Lathan

Auteur filmmaker CJ Obasi (Mami Wata) takes another step on the international scene with his upcoming feature, a psychological thriller titled A Blue Butterfly. Produced by Stella Nwimo, who recently produced Olive Nwosu’s Sundance title Lady, the project is co-produced by Rebecca Long for Boudica Entertainment.

The story is expected to follow Sentwali, a limousine driver withdrawn by a violent past, whose only meaningful connection is with an elderly Holocaust survivor who understands trauma. When he meets Emily, an actress who challenges his emotional distance, the possibility of redemption begins to emerge. The upcoming project will be led by Steve Toussaint (House of the Dragon), who also serves as screenwriter, starring alongside Sanaa Lathan (Love & Basketball).

Also in production for Obasi is the anticipated La Pyramide, described as a cross-continental voyage and previously featured in 2025 Red Sea Souk Work-in-Progress.

UK-based production company Boudica Entertainment has produced films and television projects such as The Falling, Nuclear, Forget Me Not, and The Sea, featuring talents including Florence Pugh, Emilia Jones, and George MacKay.

Production on A Blue Butterfly is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with filming set to take place in the UK and Rwanda.
