Orobosa Ikponmwen’s Young Adult Drama ‘Pushing 30’ Sets October Africa Magic Premiere (Watch Trailer)

A film about a group of young adults is heading to the small screen in Orobosa Ikponmwen’s Pushing 30, premiering on Africa Magic Showcase in October. And we have the first trailer.

The film follows Osaze Imafidon, a 30-year-old tech founder who appears to have achieved the life many people associate with the milestone. He has a successful business, a relationship, close friends and plans for the future. His birthday brunch, however, soon takes an unexpected turn when old rivalries, romantic baggage, career insecurities and long-held secrets begin to surface.

Starring a young, star-studded cast that includes Deji Osikoya, Darasimi Ogbetah, Mayowa Mula, Kanaga Emmanuel Eme, Kanyin Eros, Uzor Daniel, Sharon Rotimi, Doris Okorie and Floyd Igbo, Pushing 30 uses the gathering to examine the expectations placed on young adults to have their careers, relationships and personal lives figured out by a certain age. As the day unfolds, the characters are forced to confront the gap between the lives they present and the realities they are dealing with.

According to the producers, the team sought actors who could capture the film’s lighthearted tone and work naturally as an ensemble.

Executive produced by Mayowa Mula for Mula Productions, Pushing 30 was written by Mannie Oiseomaye from a story by Mula and Oiseomaye, with Desmond Ebuwa Ekunwe (Grown) handling line production.

The project began in 2022 with Mula’s initial story idea and went through several script drafts and two years of funding before production began in early 2025. It then spent several months in post-production before being submitted to networks and platforms.

Pushing 30 adds to Ikponmwen’s directing credits, which include Bodmas, and yet-to-be-released Jade Osiberu-produced Half Of Me and Gold Gerry-produced Adanne.

Mayowa Mula’s previous credits include The Little Things (2022). Oisemaye is known for writing Introducing the Kujus, Smart Money Woman and Under the Influence.

Pushing 30 premieres on October 18 at 8:00 PM on Africa Magic Showcase, with a ‘potential’ repeat broadcast.

Details of any further platform or streaming release are yet to be announced.
