Winners at the Inclusive Lens Awards at 2025 FAME Week Africa

FAME Week: Cape Town welcomed the second edition of the Inclusive Lens Awards on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, during FAME Week Africa at the MIP Africa Theatre. The ceremony honoured storytellers who are changing the face of film and television through inclusive and authentic narratives.

The winners were selected from a range of finalists across children’s programming, disability representation, and LGBTQIA+ storytelling, covering both scripted and non-scripted films and series. Bronx Colours supported this year’s event, the professional makeup brand, whose International Marketing Manager, Humza Mohammed, described the collaboration as a way to celebrate self-expression and creativity both on and off screen.

Judges for the awards included Lala Tuku, Esther Pearl, Gibson Ncube, Louise Callcott-Stevens and Tarha McKenzie, respected professionals from film, television, academia and advocacy. 

Below is a list of the winners in different categories.

Diversity in Kids’ Programming 

Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes (South Africa, Canada, France) – for preschool audience

Iyanu (Nigeria) – for older children

Representation of Disability

Facing Forward (South Africa) 

Diepe Waters (South Africa)

Everybody Loves Touda (Morocco, France, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway) 

Representation of LGBTQIA+

Onthou Vi Fredo? (Ghana) 

Nyame Mma (Ghana) 

This Body Works For Me (South Africa) 

She, He, They (Nigeria)

Unseen Impact Award

The newly introduced honour went to writer and director Karen Jeynes. She was celebrated for her mentorship, advocacy and creative projects, including The Morning After and Recipes for Love and Murder. As co-founder of the Disabled Audiovisual Workers Network, Jeynes has worked to ensure more inclusive opportunities in African screen industries.

The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, at the MIP Africa Theatre.
