Ruggedman Shares his Nollywood Journey, From ‘Waka Pass’ Roles To Hopefully Landing His First Major Role

At the premiere of Red Circle, veteran rapper Michael ‘Ruggedman’ Ugochukuwu Stephens, also a cast member of the crime thriller, opens up about his early days in Nollywood, revealing that his foray into acting began when he asked himself what he hadn’t tried yet and realised it was movies.

Starring as Super Glue in the newly released film, a longtime fan and critic of Nigerian films, he felt it was only right to gain firsthand experience in the industry he often spoke about. “It’s one thing to be on the outside looking in and talking about it, but it’s another thing to talk about what you know about it,” he said during the red carpet conversation with What Kept Me Up.

His acting journey began with a small “waka pass” role offered by the late Francis Agu (Checkmate) and has since evolved into appearances in films such as Bad Comments alongside Jim Iyke and The Ghost and the Tout Too by Toyin Abraham. Ruggedman described the experience as exciting, noting that it has deepened his appreciation and understanding of the filmmaking process.
