TAFM Expands African Reach, Officially Opens 2024 Submission Window

The much-anticipated third edition of The Annual Film Mischief Festival is set to return and expand its reach to even more countries for the 2024 season. This year, the festival will spotlight African and African-diaspora cinema with its theme, “Shoot The Culture Too,” building on its theme from 2023’s “Shoot The Culture.”

Organised by The Film Rats Club, the festival hopes to continue its tradition of celebrating films that push storytelling boundaries while honoring the rich heritage of oral literature. From October 10th to 12th, 2024, locations across Nigeria (Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja), Ghana, and Tanzania will host this hybrid event.

Founder Chukwu Martin expressed excitement in a statement: “We are looking forward to the film selections and screenings as usual. I’m excited about meeting new underground filmmakers and experiencing films from other African countries. I believe it’s going to be a worthy experience”.

Submissions for the 2024 edition of The Annual Film Mischief are now open until July 20, 2024. The festival will feature a selection of domestic and international films, including both features and shorts, created by African filmmakers as well as those in the diaspora, focusing on the African experience.

The 2023 edition of the festival was co-headed by actor Uche-Chika Elemelu (Riona) and writer Tomi Folowosele (Irora Iya) with Ego Boyo, Loukman Ali, Amartei Amar, Magdalene Morton and Kabelo Thathe serving as jury members.

The upcoming festival promises a dynamic series of activities, including networking events, and engaging round-table discussions with filmmakers and actors. A highlight of TAFM ’24 will be the film trade fair, where filmmakers and FilmTech companies will showcase their innovative services and products to a diverse and enthusiastic audience.

Ahead of this year’s event, The Annual Film Mischief has also announced media partnerships with Take One Productions & Thspian.
