Chukwu Martin, known for his distinctive approach in projects like Oga Mike and Mr Gbenga’s Hard Drive, has announced his latest venture, GUY, a limited series set to premiere on YouTube. The project blends classic theatrical elements with social commentary, offering an introspective take on loneliness, identity, and the quiet struggles of an artist searching for meaning in an unpredictable world.

Staying true to his raw, experimental aesthetic known as rough plays, GUY captures moments of creative stagnation and the emotional weight of everyday interactions. Martin explained that the project came together organically, following a casual conversation with collaborators Ifebusola and Adedolapo Boluwatife, both of whom worked as the cinematographer and actor, respectively. Their spontaneous enthusiasm led to a rapid production process, resulting in three initial episodes that serve as a template for future installments.

The series features performances from ‘Chukwu Martin, Ethan Abanikannda, Oladiran Afolabi, Maureen Vincent, Kareem Temitope, Adedolapo Boluwatife, Tinuola Nwachukwu, Usman Abiodun & TobeChukwu. Behind the scenes, Olaoluwa Babatunde handles sound design, and executive production is shared by Oladahunsi Olumide, Ifebusola, and Martin.

GUY looks to be another experiment in Martin’s evolving filmography, after his short film Oga Mike which screened at Lagos Fringe, The Annual Mischief, and AFRIFF and explored the resilience of everyday Nigerians.

Martin is also known as an actor for his roles in Africa Magic’s Masquerades of Aniedo, and A Green Fever.

No release date has been announced yet for GUY.
