Wande Thomas’ Spiraling has been selected for the 17th Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF), where it will screen alongside seven other Nigerian films in the festival’s 2026 programme.
Spiraling, a 133-minute thriller drama, follows Sade, a tech entrepreneur whose affair with a married man sets off a chain of events that draws her into a dangerous web of secrets and consequences.
Co-written by Thomas and Amaka Anioji, with Isoken Ogiemwonyi as the producer, the thriller stars Toni Tones, Folu Storms, Seun Ajayi and Jim Iyke.
This year’s SVAFF features 76 films from 33 countries across five categories: Animation, Documentary Features, Documentary Shorts, Narrative Features and Narrative Shorts. The festival describes its programme as a platform for stories from Africa and the diaspora, with screenings complemented by panels, workshops, live performances, fashion shows and an African market.
Along with Thomas’ Spiraling, other Nigerian titles selected are Franklin Ogalanya’s You Of All People (Nigerian-Canadian) in Narrative Features; Convictions, I CAN, Personal Therapy and Say Yes in Narrative Shorts; Daro Umaigba’s SUYA – A Spicy piece of Home in Documentary Features; and David Akwara’s 40 Years of Crafting AFRICA in Documentary Shorts.
Ghana has one film in the 2026 selection: Akua Agyekumwaa’s Unread, screening in Narrative Shorts.
Other African titles in the wider programme include Gabon’s AFROTŌPIA, Kenya’s Beneath The Tides, Namibia’s Mwananga, Zimbabwe’s RUSAMBO, Uganda’s SLUM BOMBER, South Africa’s Solitary, Togo’s CENT DOUZE and Tunisia’s Our Seed.
The 17th edition of SVAFF will run from October 8 to 11, 2026, in San Jose, California.
