Melon House’s debut feature Adanne, directed by Orobosa Ikponmwen, is set to begin its festival run with selections at the All African Independent Film Festival (AAIFF) in Kigali, Rwanda, and the Women of the Lens Festival in London. The official poster has also been unveiled alongside the festival announcements.
The English and Igbo-language film follows three generations of Igbo women living under one roof as they deal with family expectations, love and tensions. At the centre is a young woman torn between her creative ambitions and the traditions she is expected to uphold.
Produced and written by Gold Gerry (Boo’d Up), Mmesomachi Chilaka makes her screen debut as the titular character Adanne, with Onyinye Odokoro (Baby Farm), Kelvinmary Ndukwe and Jennifer Umenwa also starring.
Shot on location in Ibadan, Nigeria, Lotanna Nwose is also credited as a producer and Olayinka Suara as director of photography.
In a statement to What Kept Me Up, Nwose briefly talks about what the selections mean for the team, noting that they add “an extra layer of validation for the work we’ve put in the past couple of months”.
Adanne will screen at AAIFF in Kigali from October 15 to 17, 2026. Then the next stop comes at the Women of the Lens Festival in London in November.
Further screenings are planned across the EMEA region as the film builds toward theatrical release. Trino Motion Pictures will distribute the film nationwide.
