Nigerian Filmmaker Priye Diri is among 20 fellows selected for the Film Independent 2024 Global Media Makers LA Residency. The program is a “cultural exchange program designed to foster relationships between American and international film professionals ”.
Priye Diri served as one of the writers of Kill Boro, a First Features project initiative by Native Filmworks and Michelangelo Productions, currently streaming on Prime Video.
As part of the Global Media Makers residency program, Diri will be developing her narrative feature, Baby Girl, which follows the story of Baby Girl as she struggles to understand why her mother hates her. As she goes on a journey of self-discovery, she uncovers the situation surrounding her birth.
This residency program is a partnership between the Film Independent initiative and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Global Media Makers, which runs for five weeks through June 30, will develop the skills of the selected filmmakers in screenwriting, directing, creative development and documentary filmmaking where they’ll develop their current projects.
Film Independent is a non-profit known for the Spirit Awards, where C.J. ‘Fiery’ Obasi bagged a nomination for Mami Wata in the Best International Film category.
Another recipient of a Film Independent initiative is Nigerian producer Josh Olaoluwa, who was selected as one of 27 fellows for the 2024 Project Involve residency in LA.
