During a 2025 of foreign streaming slowdown, there were a lot more titles that premiered theatrically, including major box office titles like Behind The Scenes, Daniel Etim Effiong’s directorial debut The Herd, which quickly went to streaming within a month of its release, and many more titles facing uncertainty in the next steps of their cycle.
With the arrival of Nigerian streaming services such as EbonyLife ON+ and Kava, some of these films have now found their way to these platforms after their cinema runs.

Summer Rain
Summer Rain traces the lives of Murewa (Bolaji Ogunmola) and Dimchi (Daniel Etim Effiong), childhood best friends whose unspoken feelings are disrupted by a painful misunderstanding. When fate brings them back together a decade later, unresolved emotions resurface. Directed by Adenike Adebayo-Esho, who also co-produced the project alongside Ogunmola, the romance drama premiered in cinemas on the 7th of February before making its streaming premiere on Kava on November 13. Distribution was handled by Cinemax.
Reel Love
Produced by Timini Egbuson as his cinema production debut and directed by Kayode Kasum (Ajosepo), Reel Love is a romantic film released in cinemas on Valentine’s Day. Written by Ife Olujuyigbe (Sisi London), Reel Love follows Tomide (Timini Egbuson), a relationship influencer who enters a fake romance after a viral argument with Rachel (T.J. Omusuku) threatens his career. As real feelings develop, jealousy and a leaked secret turn the arrangement into chaos. Also starring Funke Akindele, Bimbo Ademoye, Shaffy Bello, Efa Iwara, Dakore Akande, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, and Lilian Afegbai, Reel Love grossed nearly 300M within five weeks of its release. Reportedly, it also marked the highest opening weekend ever for a first-time producer, and became the most successful Nollywood Valentine’s Day release. Reel Love is currently streaming on Kava.
Labake Olododo
In the long line of epic Yoruba films, Iyabo Ojo delivers her own entry into the genre with Labake Olododo. Produced by Iyabo Ojo and directed by veteran filmmaker Biodun Stephen, the film was released on March 28. It follows the story of a female warrior who battles oppression and serves as a virtuous protector of her community. Starring
Owambe Thieves
Set against the backdrop of Lagos’ lavish party culture, Owambe Thieves taps into the desperation beneath the glamour. The film centres on Cheta (Zubby Michael) and Lola (Eniola Ajao), a struggling couple who turn to stealing from extravagant celebrations in a bid to survive. Produced by Eniola Ajao and written and directed by Adeoluwa Owu (The Griot), supporting performances come from Faithia Balogun, Odunlade Adekola, Femi Branch, Hadiza Abubakar, Seilat Adebowale, and Bashirah Giwa. Released on April 18, Owambe Thieves grossed over 200M and is now streaming on Kava.
My Mother is a Witch
At its core, My Mother is a Witch is an emotionally charged exploration of family, distance, and unresolved wounds. Produced by Anthill Studios and FrameFlixHQ, the film was written and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan (Lisabi). The story follows Jess (Efe Irele), whose return from the United Kingdom to Nigeria is prompted by news of her mother’s (Mercy Aigbe) reported death, reopening a long-strained relationship. Also starring Timini Egbuson, Neo Akpofure, and Nike Adams, My Mother is a Witch released in cinemas on May 23 and was featured on What Kept Me Up’s list of Best Nigerian Titles of 2025. Unclaimed
A psychological thriller directed by Biodun Stephen for Sam Ochonma’s The Hook Entertainment, marking the company’s first feature film, in partnership with Film Trybe. The story follows a young woman, Mary (Elma Mbadiwe), who wakes up in a pool of blood with a knife in her hand while her husband, Dieko (Kunle Remi), goes missing. The film explores questions of innocence and unravels hidden secrets within the marriage. The cast includes Kunle Remi, Elma Mbadiwe, Teniola Aladese, Timini Egbuson, and Omowunmi Dada. The film was released in cinemas on June 28, currently streaming on EbonyLife On Plus.
A Weekend Fiasco
Chaos takes centre stage in A Weekend Fiasco, a comedy-drama built around deception and double lives. The film follows Tobe (Alexx Ekubo) and Nicole (Ini Edo), a married couple who unknowingly bring their secret lovers on the same getaway, setting the stage for explosive revelations. Directed by Sam Olatunji (Rising: City of Dreams) and produced by Damilola Osikoya, the ensemble cast features Yvonne Jegede, Odunlade Adekola, Chimezie Imo, Liquorose, Lizzy Jay, Waje, Diva Gold, and Ilebaye. Following its September 5 release, A Weekend Fiasco is now streaming on Kava.
The Herd
The Herd follows a wedding ceremony that descends into chaos when the couple (played by Kunle Remi and Genoveva Umeh), alongside the best man (Daniel Etim Effiong), are attacked by bandits. The film was written by Lani Aisida (Say Who Die) and directed and produced by Daniel Etim Effiong, for Toritori Films and FilmOne Studios. The cast includes Linda Ejiofor, Mercy Aigbe, Lateef Adedimeji, Deyemi Okanlawon, Tina Mba, Blessing Jessica Obasi, and Amal Umar. Released in cinemas on October 17, the film grossed over ₦170M in its first three weeks and is now available to stream on Netflix.
Red Circle
An ambitious attempt to take down an underground crime syndicate leads to far-reaching consequences for journalist Fikayo Holloway (Folu Storms) and everyone around her. The film centres on Fikayo, a journalist raised in a wealthy household led by her parents, the Holloways (Bukky Wright andFemi Branch), as her pursuit of a crime syndicate pulls her into increasingly dangerous territory. The film was produced by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Nora Awolowo (doubling as cinematographer) for Rixel Studios, with Awolowo becoming the youngest producer to cross the 100 million naira mark at the box office. Directed by Akay Mason, other cast members include Lateef Adedimeji, Timini Egbuson, Tobi Bakre, Debo Adedayo, Omowunmi Dada, and Mike Afolarin. Red Circle was released in cinemas June 6, now available to stream on Kava.
Adunni: Ogidan Binrin
Set in pre-independence Agbajo, Adunni: Ogidan Binrin follows the lives of three women, Adunni (Funmi Ogidan-Bello), Romoke (Nancy Isime), and Abegbe (Shola Kosoko), who rise to fight injustice and tyranny in their community. With the dialogue in English and Yoruba, more cast members include Odunlade Adekola, Lateef Adedimeji, Iyabo Ojo, Tina Mba, Muyiwa Ademola, and Keppy Ekpenyong. The historical drama directed by Yemi Amodu and produced by Funmi Ogidan-Bello was released in cinemas March 25, streaming now on Kava.
Bro Code
Bro Code follows the lives of three close friends, Chris, KC, and Arinze, who believe they have mastered the art of dating through their own set of unwritten rules, the “Bro Code.” These confident bachelors pride themselves on staying in control of love and avoiding emotional vulnerability, but everything changes when unpredictable women enter their lives and challenge their beliefs. Directed by Austin Nnaemeka, who also led the production through Soundmind Productions, and written by Valerie Izuegbuna. The comedy-drama stars Mike Ezuruonye, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Nancy Isime, Majid Michel, MC Lively, and Genoveva Umeh. With distribution through Genesis, Bro Code premiered in cinemas nationwide May 30 and is now streaming on EbonyLife ON Plus.
