Chukwu Martin Seeks to Explore the Resilience of Ordinary Nigerians in New Short Film ‘Oga Mike’

Oga Mike, a short film written, directed, and produced by Chukwu Martin (Mr. Gbenga’s Hard Drive), captures the struggles of an ordinary mascot performer trying to provide for his family in Nigeria’s current harsh economic climate. We have our first look at the official posters and teaser trailer.

The short premiered at the Bridge’s & UM6P Talent LinkUp Networking Event in Morocco on May 7, 2024, and is set for more select screenings across Nigeria and beyond.  It stars Ikechukwu Iwebenua (Masquerades of Aniedo), Temitope Agoro and Chris Ikechi Anyanya (Chronicles).

According to the director, this short or a play in his words is a bolder attempt at experimenting with certain theatrical elements “I want to tell more stories about ordinary people. People struggling with issues that are beyond them. The common man”.

Set in present day 2024, Oga Mike portrays a man who represents many Nigerians, battling everyday challenges with resilience and hope and seeks to paint a vivid picture of life.

Oga Mike is a collaborative effort shot in one single day due to budget constraints and is a testament to the determination of its creators. It promises to explore many thematic issues of masculinity, religion and death.

The production is a partnership between Sweet Potato Films and Atewo Media, with Imoh Eboh serving as executive producer.
