Josh Olaoluwa and Vincho Nchogu’s Joint Sophomore Project, ‘A Fantastic Tale’ Heads to 2026 Cinekid Junior Co-Production Market

One year after their collaboration on One Woman One Bra earned them a Venice world premiere, Nigerian producer Josh Olaoluwa and Kenyan director Vincho Nchogu are taking their next project, A Fantastic Tale, to the 2026 Cinekid Junior Co-production Market in Amsterdam.

Set along the waterways of Lagos, the Nigerian-Kenyan co-production follows 12-year-old Sweetie, an imaginative boy who believes a mythical pink fish is responsible for his older sister wanting to leave home and get married. On a mission to bring his sister back, Sweetie repairs an abandoned boat and sets out across the Epe Lagoon with his brother and friends to find the creature.

Produced by Moving Slates and Kilastory, the live-action fantasy adventure, also written by Nchogu, is among 18 projects (film, series and animation) from 20 countries selected for the market. The programme will bring the filmmakers together with producers, financiers, distributors and other industry professionals as they seek European and distribution partnerships for the project.

The Cinekid selection adds another international development platform to the film’s journey. A Fantastic Tale won the Red Sea Souk Market Prize of $50,000 in 2023. The filmmakers later participated in Gotham Week 2025, introducing the project to potential US partners and distributors with whom they have continued discussions. Earlier this year, the project took part in the Africa Investors Roundtable in Cape Town, where they met with potential financiers.

At the Co-production Market, Olaoluwa and Nchogu will present the film through pitching sessions and one-on-one meetings as they continue working towards production on “what has been a very special project”, according to Olaoluwa.

Vincho Nchogu’s first feature, One Woman One Bra, since its world premiere, has won the BFI Sutherland Award for Best First Feature Film and Tribeca Audience Award. It opened recently in cinemas in Kenya and was selected as Kenya’s selection to the 99th Academy Awards.

Josh Olaoluwa is a Nigerian producer and showrunner, known for Amazon’s GRIND, and Netflix’s A Sunday Affair.

The 2026 Junior Co-production Market will take place in Amsterdam in October as part of Cinekid for Professionals.
