Nigeria records another modest presence in the 2026 Tribeca Festival lineup, with two projects set to make their North American premiere, One Woman, One Bra and Crocodile, a pan-African collaboration and a Kaduna-set documentary already travelling on the festival circuit.

Selected in the Viewpoints section (described as “a showcase for directors who break rules, bend genres, and carve new cinematic paths”), One Woman, One Bra is a Kenya–Nigeria project produced by Nigeria’s Josh Olaoluwa and directed by Kenya’s Vincho Nchogu who doubles as the screenwriter. Set in Kenya, the film follows a young woman’s search for identity after discovering her childhood image on a book cover. The film arrives at Tribeca following its world premiere at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, where it debuted in the Biennale College Cinema section, and subsequent screenings including the BFI London Film Festival, where it won the Sutherland Award for Best First Feature.
Also screening in the Viewpoints section, Crocodile offers a sharply different but equally resonant perspective. Co-directed by Pietra Brettkelly and The Critics and produced between New Zealand and Nigeria, the documentary is set in Kaduna and filmed over a 13-year period. It follows a group of young people who transform their surroundings into a DIY filmmaking collective, using limited resources to imagine and create their own cinematic worlds. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.
Recent years show a sustained relationship between Nigeria and Tribeca. In 2024, The Weekend by Daniel Oriahi made history with its premiere at the festival, marking a rare instance of a Nigerian narrative feature in the lineup. A year later, the 2025 edition featured the world premiere of Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, a documentary tracing the global rise of the Nigerian music star Wizkid.
The 25th anniversary edition of The Tribeca Festival will take place from June 3 to 14, 2026, in New York City.
