January 5
A Weekend To Forget
Starring Daniel Etim-Effiong, Ini Dima-Okojie, Stan Nze, Erica Nlewedim, Elozonam Ogbolu, Uche Montana, Neo Akpofure, and Akin Lewis, the 2023 murder mystery will start streaming on Prime Video. Directed by Damola Ademola in his feature debut, A Weekend To Forget follows seven friends who go on a weekend getaway and what should be a weekend of fun turns awry when one of them is murdered.

Adire
After a theatrical run in 2023, Adire will now be available to stream on Netflix. The drama which stars Kehinde Bankole as the titular character follows a former sex worker who moves to a small town and launches a lingerie business. She draws the ire of a preacher’s wife while her dark past comes after her in this small conservative town. Adire also stars Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Yvonne Jegde, Femi Branch, Kelechi Udegbe, Tomi Ojo, Mike Afolarin, Ifeanyi Kalu and Layi Wasabi.
January 18
Merry Men 3
The Merry Men will also find their way to streaming this month after a cinematic run in 2023. Following a tragic death within the group, the men must seek vengeance against the man behind the incident. Directed by Moses Inwang, familiar faces in the franchise will return, while Chidi Mokeme makes his way in as the big bad. Merry Men 3 will be available on Netflix.

Mr Patrick Wahala in America
Starring the titular real-life comedian Mr Patrick, the comedy film follows him on his misadventures in America. Mr Patrick Wahala in America also stars Uche Jombo, Ayo Makun, and a range of other Nigerian comedians.
Half Heaven
Directed by Enah Johnscott, known for his work on the 2020 girl-child tale The Fisherman’s Diary, this Cameroonian film starring Nigeria’s Chidi Mokeme will be available on Prime Video after a cinema run in 2023.
January 24
Dinner
Mike Okafor is invited by his childhood friend and buddy, Adetunde George Jnr, to have dinner and spend the weekend with him and his fiancée Lola Coker as they plan for their upcoming wedding. Mikey decides to come along with his girlfriend Diane Bassey, as he plans to propose to her. Things get out of hand when they arrive at Adetunde’s house and they get to find out secrets about each other’s relationship and the one person in the middle of it all.
Directed by Jay Franklyn Jituboh of Madam Koi Koi, the 2016 film stars Deyemi Okanlawaon, Kehinde Bankole, Enyinna Nwigwe, Okey Uzoeshi, Keira Heywatch, Richard Mofe Damijo and Ireti Doyle. Dinner will be available on Netflix.

Meeting Funmi’s Parents
Meeting Funmi’s Parents stars Omowumi Dada, Timini Egbuson and Roman Thomson in a romantic cultural clash navigating heartstrings, disapproving glances and a persistent ex, directed by Kevin Apaa, who is known for 2022 film Dinner At My Place. Apaa’s newest romantic effort follows a just-engaged Nigerian girl who returns home with her white fiancee. Her father, being a cultured Yoruba man, does not want an oyinbo son-in-law. He does everything he can to break off their engagement. Meeting Funmi’s Parents will be in cinemas.
CAKE
As a new year rolls in, Tomiwa is not holding back anymore, he is going to tell Chalya how he feels about her. He picks the date and sets the scene but just before then, Chalya, calls in a special order, all excited. Her fiancé Theo Maduka has proposed and she can’t think of a better person than him, to make her wedding cake. What becomes of Tomiwa?
Cake, a 2022 Nollywood romantic comedy directed by Prosper Edesiri and starring Folu Storms, Tope Tedela, Sophie Alakija and Patience Ozokwor, is available on Prime Video.

Kesari stars Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Yekinni (Itele), Lateef Adedimeji, Yemi Elesho, Kelvin Ikeduba and Yvonne Jege. After a theatrical release in 2023, the Yoruba language film produced by Ibrahim Yekinni and co-directed by Yekinni and Tope Adebayo will be available on Netflix.

The final episode of the legal drama series will be available on Showmax. The 6-episode series which premiered on December 14 centres on the lives of three key characters – Etim (Kanayo O. Kanayo), Pius (Nonso Odogwu) and Victoria (Ruby Okezie) – as they find themselves entangled in a court case for the murder of Jonathan, a close friend of Pius.

Soon Comes Night
A liberation hero turned heist king and a broken Apartheid cop seeking redemption find their lives interlocked in this gritty crime drama series set in 1990s South Africa. Soon Comes Night arrives on Netflix.

The two parts of the musical romantic comedy will be available to stream on Showmax. Starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth, Mamma Mia! tells the story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular 1970s group ABBA.

Good Grief
Marc (Dan Levy) was content living in the shadow of his larger-than-life husband, Oliver (Luke Evans). But when Oliver unexpectedly dies, Marc’s world shatters, sending him and his two best friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel), on a soul-searching trip to Paris that reveals some hard truths they each need to face. Good Grief marks Levy’s debut as a feature film writer and director, who is known for his award-winning role in Schitt’s Creek. Good Grief will stream on Netflix.

Mean Girls
Cady Heron is a hit with the Plastics, an A-list girl clique at her new school when she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their characters of Ms. Norbury and Mr. Duvall 20 years after the original Mean Girls movie. Mean Girls will be in cinemas.
The Book of Clarence
Written and directed by Jeymes Samuel (known for 2021 Western The Harder They Fall), The Book of Clarence is a comedy-drama starring LaKeith Stanfield, Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Micheal Ward, Alfre Woodard, Teyana Taylor, and Caleb McLaughlin. Based on biblical events and characters, it follows Clarence who is struggling to find a better life and is captivated by the power of the rising Messiah and soon risks everything to carve a path to a divine existence. The Book of Clarence will be in cinemas.

LIFT
Kevin Hart returns in another action comedy film without Dwayne Johnson. The heist film follows a master thief and her ex-boyfriend who team up to steal $100 million in gold bullion being transported on a 777 passenger flight. Also starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó and Billy Magnussen, LIFT will be available on Netflix.
Role Play
Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo star as a couple who decides to spice up their marriage with a role play. This unveils the wife’s secret life as an assassin for hire. The action comedy will be available on Prime Video.

The Kitchen
Daniel Kaluuya makes his directorial debut in this dystopian thriller set in a London where all social housing has been eliminated. Our protagonists Izi and Benji fight to navigate the world as residents of The Kitchen, a community that refuses to abandon their home. Co-directed with Kibwe Tavares, The Kitchen will be on Netflix.
The Colour Purple
A woman faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. The remake of the classic film stars Halle Bailey, Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson and Daniel Brooks. The Colour Purple will be in cinemas.

The 2012 action fantasy live action film will be available to stream on Showmax. Snow White and the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, and Chris Hemsworth.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the 2023 superhero action comedy based on DC characters, will be streaming on Showmax. The film continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!” is transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam.
