FilmOne Entertainment takes its game in the film industry one step up as the company unveils its first original film, Adire, the first of several original projects that the production company has in the pipeline to be announced soon.
Unveiling Adire with a first-look teaser and a cast announcement on FilmOneNG’s Instagram page, Adire will star Kehinde Bankole (Prophetess) as Adire. In the clip, she has been teased as a lady who holds sinister ambitions. This is buttressed by the tagline, “Everything you heard about Adirę is true and she probably did it and more,” promising a femme fatale lead. In 2022, Kehinde Bankole starred in Blood Sisters and has joined other anticipated cinema projects like Biodun Stephen’s Sista and Inkblot’s The Set Up sequel. She will also voice a character in a previously announced Disney anthology animation, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire.
Other cast members include Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi (The Figurine) as Folashade, Yvonne Jegede (Gold Statue) as Salewa, Yemi Blaq (Shadow Parties) as Captain, Femi Branch (Glamour Girls) as Mide, Ifeanyi Kalu (To Love, to Forget) as Thomas, Kelechi Udegbe (Soole) as Tobi, Damilola Ogunsi (Finding Hubby) as Ope, Onyiye Nnenna Odoroko as Abeni, Idowu Philips (Sugar Rush) as Fumilayo, Lizzy Jay as Yewande, Ibrahim Chatta (King of Thieves) as Tega, Mike Afolarin as Deji, Tomi Ojo (Love Like This) as Simi, Jack’enneth Opukeme as Tunde, and in what is likely to be a debut big screen appearance for internet sensation Layi Wasabi playing a barman.
Adire will be directed by Adeoluwa Owu, who is more known as a cinematographer, behind My Village People, Oga Bolaji, Charge and Bail and This Lady Called Life. The script is written by Jack’enneth Opukeme, one of the writers behind The Ghost & The Tout Too, who will also star in the film. The film will be produced by Barbara Babarinsa and executive produced by Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa. Mimi Bartels will serve as supervising producer. Emmanuel Igbekele Odihiri (Soole, Breaded Life, Ponzi) will be the director of photography on this project.
FilmOne is a major player in Nollywood, known for film distribution and co-production with other studios. Adire marks FilmOne’s first original production.
