Meeting Funmi’s Parents

Directed by Kevin Apaa and executive produced by Michael Oke for Belmont Pictures, Meeting Funmi’s Parents follows Funmi as she brings home her fiancée from Los Angeles to Lagos to meet her parents, setting the stage for a hilarious and emotional journey through love, tradition, and the complexities of family expectations. Starring Omowunmi Dada, Timini Egbuson, Roman Thomson, Akin Lewis, Tina Mba, Sophie Alakija, Broda Shaggi, and Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, the romcom premiered in Nigerian cinemas in 2024 and is available to stream on Prime Video in the UK, US and Australia.

Alechenu

A young boy’s journey from Oyo to Lagos in search of his mother sets off a chain of events that unearths long-buried family secrets. Directed by Biodun Stephen in her second theatrical release this year, Alechenu stars Mike Ezuruonye, Bimbo Ademoye, Femi Adebayo, Blessing Jessica Obasi-Nze, Wumi Toriola, Adediwura Gold and Royal Aziomaku. Alechenu premieres in cinemas. 

Market People 

Jeremiah John’s Market People recounts the activities of market people, navigating love, loss, longing, and neglect due to minusculeness in the vast marketplace of life. Told through a narrator, the short film screened at The Annual Film Mischief in 2025 and is one of our best films of 2026 so far. Market People will stream on YouTube.

Love and New Notes

Set against Nigeria’s 1984 currency change, Love & New Notes follows a young accountant whose plans for love and starting a family are complicated by financial uncertainty and a rapidly changing country. Directed by Kayode Kasum and produced by Timini Egbuson from a screenplay by Stephen Okonkwo, the romance stars Egbuson, Sophie Alakija, Odunlade Adekola, Ayoola Akinyoola, Eniola Badmus, Toluwani George and Tolu Babs Omish. Love and New Notes premiered in cinemas on February 13, a day before Valentine’s Day and a release window Timini has carved for himself. Set to stream on Kava

July 10

The Return of Omotara Johnson

Bukky Wright returns to producing with The Return of Omotara Johnson, a sequel to the early 2000s film that helped make her a household name. Years after leaving her criminal past behind, Omotara is forced back into familiar territory when her son is accused of murder. Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, Wright also stars alongside Janet Adebayo, Shaffy Bello, Timini Egbuson, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ali Nuhu. Okanjuwa

Written by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and directed by Zulumoke Oyibo, the story follows Waheed and Aaliyah as wedding plans and family expectations lead to a series of conflicts among relatives and friends. Starring Kunle Remi, Tomike Adeoye, Uzor Arukwe, Omowunmi Dada, Femi Adebayo, Tobi Makinde, Ruby Okezie, Bianca Ugowanne, and Blessing Jessica Obasi-Nze, Okanjuwa! premiered in cinemas on May 22, 2026, and will be available on Kava. 

July 24

King of Thieves 2

Years after disappearing since restoring peace to Ajeromi, the legendary Agesinkole returns to a kingdom once again consumed by greed, corruption, and betrayal. Forbidden love, buried secrets, and an ancient seal’s destruction unleash forces beyond human control. Femi Adebayo reprises his role as the dreadful king of thieves, set to stream on Netflix following the arrival of the original film in June. King of Thieves 2 was released in community cinemas in select southwestern cities from Dec 24 2025, to Jan 4 2026

Njem: The Journey

Following its premiere at AFRIFF 2025, Njem: The Journey heads to cinemas with a story about a young man whose dream of migrating abroad is complicated by love, loss and the difficult choices that follow. Directed by Uche Chukwu and written by Ayomide Olatunbosun, the thriller stars Chimezie Imo, Goodness Emmanuel, Kelechi Udegbe, Tomi Ojo, Rotimi Salami, Tana Adelana and Abayomi Olukanmi.

Susanna follows a mother whose determination to keep her child safe forces her to confront the darkness she has spent years trying to outrun. Mary Njoku, Rachel Okonkwo, Uche Treasure and Patience Ozokwo star in the Africa Magic series, available to watch on Africa Magic Igbo on DSTV and GOTV.

Enola Holmes 3

Millie Bobby Brown returns as the sharp-witted Enola Holmes in a new mystery that takes her to Malta, where a wedding is interrupted by Sherlock Holmes’ disappearance. Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Louis Partridge, Himesh Patel and Sharon Duncan-Brewster reprise their roles in the third film, directed by Philip Barantini. Watch the new entry on Netflix. 

Rob Peace

Based on Jeff Hobbs’ bestselling biography, Rob Peace tells the true story of a gifted Yale student caught between extraordinary promise and the weight of his family’s circumstances. Directed by and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jay Will leads the cast alongside Mary J. Blige, Camila Cabello and Michael Kelly. The 2024 film is available on Netflix. 

July 3

Project Hail Mary

Based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, Project Hail Mary follows a middle school science teacher who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory of his mission, only to realise he may be humanity’s last hope for survival. Ryan Gosling stars in the sci-fi adventure, directed by Academy Award winners Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with Sandra Hüller in a supporting role. Project Hail Mary premiered in cinemas on March 20, 2026, and is available on Prime Video. 

Spider-Man Friday

Ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day release at the end of the month, all Spider-Man films will be available to stream on DSTV every Friday.  

Young Washington

The historical drama chronicles the formative years of George Washington before he became America’s first president, focusing on the experiences that shaped his leadership during the French and Indian War. Directed by Jon Erwin, the film stars Jeremy John Wells as the young Washington alongside Stephen Lang, Dermot Mulroney, Emily Rose and John Amos. Coming to cinemas. 

July 6

She Came To Me

Rebecca Miller writes and directs this romantic comedy-drama starring Peter Dinklage as a composer whose creative block is lifted by an unexpected encounter with a tugboat captain, played by Marisa Tomei. Anne Hathaway, Joanna Kulig, Brian d’Arcy James and Evan Ellison complete the ensemble in a story where love, music and chance collide. Watch it on Netflix. 

July 5 

Nuremberg 

Set in the aftermath of World War II, Nuremberg chronicles the psychological battle between Hermann Göring and the American psychiatrist assigned to evaluate him before the Nuremberg Trials. James Vanderbilt writes and directs the historical drama, with Russell Crowe and Rami Malek leading the cast alongside Michael Shannon, Richard E. Grant and Leo Woodall. July 8

Nothing to Lose

After years of struggling to become a mother, a woman finally gets the family she always dreamed of but when her young son is diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia, she embarks on a desperate search for a compatible bone marrow donor, forcing her to confront impossible choices in the race to save his life. Nawell Madani co-directs and stars in the French Netflix drama alongside Guillaume Gouix, Paul Fouré, Nicolas Briançon, Steve Tientcheu, Sarah Stern and Aïssatou Diallo Sagna.

July 10

Evil Dead Burn

The Evil Dead franchise heads into another blood-soaked nightmare with Evil Dead Burn, where a fresh group of unsuspecting victims comes face to face with the Deadites. Souheila Yacoub leads the cast in the Sébastien Vaniček-directed horror coming to theatres nationwide. 

Moana 

Disney’s live-action reimagining stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana, who sets sail beyond the shores of Motunui alongside the demigod Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Thomas Kail, the live-action is set to premiere in cinemas less than a year after the animated sequel. 

Kung Fu Panda 4

Po is named the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, a new role that requires him to find his successor while facing a shape-shifting sorceress known as the Chameleon. Mike Mitchell directs the fourth instalment of DreamWorks’ animated franchise, with Jack Black, Awkwafina, Viola Davis, Dustin Hoffman, Bryan Cranston, James Hong and Ian McShane in the voice cast. 

Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea

The Netflix documentary revisits the 2012 sinking of the luxury cruise ship Costa Concordia, piecing together the disaster through previously unseen footage and firsthand accounts from survivors. It reconstructs the events of the shipwreck, the rescue operation and the aftermath of one of the deadliest cruise disasters in recent history. 

July 15

Death on the Nile 

Kenneth Branagh returns as Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie’s classic murder mystery, where a luxurious honeymoon cruise along the Nile descends into a deadly investigation. Starring Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Emma Mackey, Letitia Wright, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal and Sophie Okonedo, the mystery unfolds on Netflix. 

July 17

Bugonia

Yorgos Lanthimos reunites with Emma Stone for the fourth feature collaboration of their award-winning partnership after The Favourite, Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness. Adapted from the South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, Bugonia follows two conspiracy theorists who kidnap a powerful CEO after becoming convinced she is an alien. Also starring Jesse Plemons, Alicia Silverstone and Stavros Halkias, the 2025 film received four nominations at the 2026 Academy Awards. Available to stream on DSTV. 

Heartstopper Forever

Nick and Charlie’s love story reaches its final chapter as they face the realities of growing up and the future that lies beyond school. Kit Connor and Joe Locke return alongside Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell and the rest of the original series ensemble in the feature film written by Alice Oseman and directed by Wash Westmoreland. Tenet 

Christopher Nolan’s globe-spanning espionage thriller follows a covert operative drawn into a mission where time itself becomes the ultimate weapon. John David Washington stars alongside Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The Creator

In a future where humans are at war with artificial intelligence, a former special forces agent is sent to eliminate the mysterious architect of AI’s most powerful weapon. Written and directed by Gareth Edwards, the sci-fi epic is led by John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Allison Janney and Madeleine Yuna Voyles. Available to stream on Netflix. 

The Odyssey 

Christopher Nolan adapts Homer’s epic poem into a mythological adventure following Odysseus’ perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Matt Damon leads an ensemble that includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal. Follow his journey home in cinemas nationwide. 

July 19

The Housemaid

The Housemaid (2025) follows a young woman who takes a housekeeping job with a wealthy family, only to discover that their home holds far more than she bargained for. Paul Feig directs the psychological thriller written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, with Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar and Michele Morrone starring. Watch the mystery thriller on DSTV.

July 24 

72 Hours 

Kevin Hart plays a former FBI agent who finds himself caught in a dangerous race against time after becoming entangled with an international crime syndicate. Tim Story directs the thriller, which also stars Mason Gooding, Marcello Hernández and Zach Cherry and is available to stream on Netflix. 

The Truthers

A woman’s return home after her mother’s mysterious death forces her to confront her paranoid father, whose obsession with conspiracy theories begins to blur the line between delusion and reality. Directed by Roger Gual, the Spanish Netflix thriller stars José Coronado, Stéphanie Magnin, Fanny Gautier and Alberto Olmo. 

July 26

Song Sung Blue

Inspired by the true story behind the Neil Diamond tribute act Lightning & Thunder, Song Sung Blue follows a husband and wife (Hugh Jackman & Kate Hudson) whose shared love of music helps them weather life’s challenges. Directed by Craig Brewer, the 2026 Oscar-nominated film premiered in Nigerian cinemas in December 2025. Available to stream on DSTV. 

July 31

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in the next chapter of Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man series following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter Parker now lives alone, protecting New York City as a full-time Spider-Man, but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he’s ever faced. Elle

Set years before Legally Blonde, Elle follows a teenage Elle Woods as she goes through high school, friendships and the experiences that make the confident lawyer audiences would later come to know. Lexi Minetree stars in the lead role, with Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde) executive producing the Prime Video prequel series. 

Heroes

Seasons of Heroes arrive on Netflix, bringing Tim Kring’s sci-fi drama about ordinary people whose newly discovered superpowers draw them into an interconnected fight to save the world. The series features Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, Masi Oka, Greg Grunberg, Ali Larter, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Adrian Pasdar, Jack Coleman and Zachary Quinto.

MobLand 

A long-running feud between two powerful London crime families threatens to erupt into open war, placing loyal fixer Harry Da Souza at the centre of an increasingly volatile power struggle. Human Vapor 

When a series of gruesome killings is linked to a man who can transform into gas, a detective and a reporter find themselves pursuing a case that grips Japan with fear. Survival of the Thickest S3

The Tick

Based on Ben Edlund’s comic books, The Tick follows an accountant who becomes convinced that his city is still under the control of a long-thought-defeated supervillain. The Hawk

 The Hawk follows former professional golfer Lonnie Hawkins as he attempts to revive his career decades after stepping away from the sport. The Bombing of Pan Am 103
