Kobby Boateng’s Ghana–Swiss Co-Production ‘The God of Odds’ Enters Post-Production, Reveals New Teaser (Exclusive)

Exclusive: The God of Odds, a new Ghana–Switzerland co-production from ASAP Studio and 9 Nights, has completed principal photography and entered post-production. What Kept Me Up can exclusively unveil the film’s second teaser.

Written & directed by Boateng in his debut feature, The God of Odds is a contemporary Ghanaian mystical thriller that follows Atiemo, a young man whose hunger for fast riches in a world of high-stakes betting collides with ancient West-African mythology. As his luck turns, the line between faith, fortune and spiritual debt begins to blur. The film examines the crisis of gambling addiction among Ghanaian youth and the psychological cost of an economy built on chance.

The cast of The God of Odds includes David Dontoh, Stephen Adaako, Mary Addis Ackwerh, Shadrack Lawson, William Lamptey (The Fisherman), Karl Sackeyfio, Samuel Madjitey (Oh Joo), Queensta AK Ofosu, Diana Gbartey, Senyo Haadzor, Daniel Governor and Jonathan Kwao.

The project began as a self-financed effort by Boateng, with filming taking place (in the Greater Accra, Central and Western Regions of Ghana) across two production periods over approximately four months. Additional financing arrived when the Swiss production company 9 Nights, led by Executive Producer Blake Simpson, came onboard after viewing the film’s first teaser, supporting the project through the completion of principal photography.

L-R: Kobby Boateng (Asap Studio) and Blake Simpson (9 Nights).

“What drew 9 Nights to this project is the same thing that makes it urgent. A young Ghanaian man caught between his ancestors and a betting shop is not just a compelling story, it is the story of an entire generation across West Africa. We exist to bring films like this to the broadest possible audience, and The God of Odds is where we start,” shared Simpson, Managing Director at 9 Nights in a statement to WKMUp.

“The partnership between Asap Studio GH and 9 Nights brings together a passionate team committed to telling bold, authentic stories. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created and thrilled to finally share this first glimpse with audiences,” added writer-director Kobby Boateng in his statement. “Seeing the teaser for our debut feature released is both humbling and exciting. The God of Odds represents years of dedication, collaboration, and belief in the power of African storytelling.”

Also credited as executive producers on The God of Odds are Yaw Amponsah, Vava Gyampeh, George Melloy Krofa, Richard Kelly Doe (also cinematography), and Jewelina Ackah, with Mortinno Morton as a co-producer.

The Ghanaian-Swiss collaboration now adds The God of Odds to Ghanaian projects finding international collaboration at different stages of production and gaining visibility on the international scene. On the multi-country production front, Paradise, the mystical Ghana-Canada-France project from Jérémy Comte had its world premiere at the 2026 Berlinale after being shot in both Accra and Quebec. Also recently, Zoey Martinson’s The Fisherman became the first Ghanaian film selected for the Venice International Film Festival, with Yvonne Orji on board as an executive producer.

Kobby Boateng of ASAP Studios, with a background in documentaries and commercial projects, is known for his short film Alossmann, which won Best Screenplay at Accra Indie Film Festival 2022.

9 Nights is a Zurich-based film studio dedicated to structuring African cinema projects for European financing and international co-production markets, with multiple projects in development.

With principal photography now complete, Boateng and his team are turning their attention to post-production and festival submissions. The team is currently targeting an early 2027 release for The God of Odds, depending on the post-production schedule.
