2022 was a special one for Nollywood, interesting movies were produced and released, writers were more adventurous with their ideas and Nollywood viewers were treated to interesting and exciting stories. While most of these movies were initially released on the big screens, some of them have been re-released on streaming platforms. 

If you were unable to squeeze some space into your schedule to go see these films at the cinema or simply want to rewatch them in your own space, they are now available on streaming platforms- Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Here are 2022 Nollywood cinema movies already available to stream.

The Blood Covenant (Prime Video) 

A tale about avarice, terrible choices, and money rituals set in Lagos. In high school, four close friends Osiano (Shawn Faqua), Jite (Uzor Arukwe), Eddie (Tobi Bakre), and Obi (Alex Ekubo) vow to always be together. Obi breaks away from the core group after high school and becomes wealthy overnight, while the others continue to struggle on varying scales. The trio’s luck changes when they miraculously escape a ritual ceremony in which they were to be sacrificed for and their long-lost buddy transfers the ritual’s covenant to them. But when they give in to their greed and delve more into the occult and ritualists, their lives are turned upside down. The Blood Covenant is directed by Fiyin Gambo.

 The Set Up 2 (Prime Video)

In this action thriller directed by Chinaza Onuzo, Chike (Adesua Etomi-Wellington) and Grace (Kehinde Bankole) return to our screens in a sequel to the 2019 installment of the Inkblot franchise. The stakes are higher in The Set Up 2, which has evolved into a high-end espionage adventure with Chike and Grace facing a new antagonist.

Chike returns to Nigeria as part of a collaborative operation between the United States government and the Nigerian Department of Security to apprehend an illicit arms dealer. She becomes involved in larger difficulties when a terrorist organisation called Ultio, named after the Roman goddess of retribution, kidnaps Grace’s daughter and blackmails Chike into carrying out a task for them.

 King of Thieves (Prime Video)

A film co-produced by Anthill Studios and Euphoria 360 in which Femi Adebayo thrills in a colourful and action-packed adventure. Playing the titular character Ageshinkole, he is an indestructible bandit who, driven by vengeance, imposes terror on the mythical kingdom of Ajeromi. All efforts by the kingdom’s residents to fight him and terminate his reign are useless. Star-studded and with a rich display of culture and tradition, King of Thieves is a must-see. 

Hey You (Prime Video)

Anthill Studios’ sensuous and sensual drama offers something new to Nollywood fans. Abel (Timini Egbuson) is a young tech bro who is hooked on porn and frequents Fans Alone, a live porn website where he meets online sex workers for pleasure. Things take an intriguing turn when he discovers that his next-door neighbour Bianca (Efe Irele), whom he has fallen for, is also his favourite sex worker on the platform. This sets off a chain of events that will either make or break their relationship. Hey You is written and directed by Uyoyou Adia.

The Man for The Job (Prime Video)

 A tech-based film produced by Anthill productions and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. The Man for the Job tells a story of shattered dreams, strained friendships, and a crime. During his side hustle as a ride-hailing cab driver, Joseph Barnabas (Uzor Arukwe) meets a young female programmer Zina (Temi Otedola) and helps her debug the codes of an app for a fee, before he gets caught up in her plot and framed as the culprit of a money siphoning scam. To catch the true offender and clear his identity, he must rely on his wife (Ini Edo) and a friend.

The Perfect Arrangement (Prime Video)

Another one from the stables of Inkblot. In The Perfect Arrangement, a romcom directed by Naz Onuzo, two families plan a sham wedding to save their ambitions. Seeing her family’s finances deteriorate, Tade (Sharon Ooja) tries to rescue the day by proposing marriage to her ex-boyfriend, Chidi (Bovi), a union that would ensure her family’s survival while also preserving Chidi’s political ambitions. However, there are some stumbling blocks, including a relentless journalist on a mission, her emotions for two brothers, and her personal goals.

Dinner at My Place (Netflix)

  A refreshing romcom directed by Kevin Luther Apaa.  Nonso (Timini Egbuson) intends to propose to the love of his life over dinner with an expensive ring entrusted to him by his late mother. Nonso becomes nervous about the dinner proposal because he wants everything to be perfect. He mistakenly drops the ring inside the soup. His crazy ex-girlfriend (Bisola Aiyeola) unexpectedly shows up, eats the meal, and swallows the ring. Nonso spends the remainder of the night attempting to pry his ring from his gold-digging ex-girlfriend’s stomach. 

Juju Stories (Prime Video) 

Juju Stories is a three-part anthology of mystical horror films based on Nigerian folklore and urban legends written and directed by the Surreal16 collective. “Love Potion”, directed by Michael Omonua, depicts a spinster who employs juju on her obstinate love interest. “Yam”, directed by Abba T. Makama, depicts the underbelly of Lagos, as the destiny of a street thug who has picked up random money on the street crosses with that of a vulcanizer preparing to make an unethical choice.  And “Suffer the Witch” by CJ ‘Fiery’ Obasi concerns an undergraduate who has piqued the love attention of a witch. It made a brief appearance in cinemas before it was eventually rereleased on Prime Video. 

Brotherhood (Prime Video)

Co-written by Jade Osiberu and Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and directed by Loukman Ali, twin brothers Wale (Folarin Falana) and Akin (Tobi Bakre) face off on opposite sides of the law. Following their parents’ deaths at the hands of robbers, their lives take drastically different turns as Wale joins the police force and Akin becomes a full-fledged criminal. Drama ensues as their activities inevitably bring them together.

Passport (Netflix)

In a plot with similar dynamics to Hangover, Passport follows Oscar (Jim Iyke), a spoiled rich kid from London who has come to Lagos to propose to his long-term girlfriend but must return the next day to spend Mother’s Day with his unwell mother. The theft of his passport-containing luggage in the ghetto marks the beginning of his problems. He enlists the aid of Kopiko (Mercy Johnson), a street-smart tomboy embroiled in a power struggle with her local government’s chairman, Terminator (Zubby Michael), to recover his belongings. 

Yahoo+ (Netflix)

 Ose (Keezyto) and Abacha (Somadina Adinma) are the main characters of this tale. Two young guys tired of the turbulence of the Nigerian job market decide to try their luck with Yahoo Plus. They get in touch with Mansa, the mighty voice on the other end of the queue, for assistance. They have been told that Mansa, a wealthy and powerful kingpin based in Hong Kong, demands a sacrifice from each of them before he will let them in. The rest of the film chronicles the fallout as the scheme begins to unravel and the specifics of Yahoo plus become known.

Obara’m (Netflix)

 Oluchi (Nancy Isime) gets pregnant with her daughter Ihunnaya during her carefree adolescence in Lagos, still young and naive after the birth of her daughter, Oluchi returns to the village with her father, Humphrey (Nkem Owoh). Unable to endure poverty with her father and daughter in the village, Oluchi once again departs for Lagos, this time leaving Ihunnaya behind. She vanishes from Ihunnaya’s life for the next decade until a family catastrophe brings her back. She is forced to face her demons, become a mother, and have a rebirth as a result of accepting the responsibilities she has been avoiding. 

Ijakumo (Netflix)

Jide (Olumide Oworu, Kunle Remi) and Asabi (Debbie Shokoya, Toyin Abraham) are young, poor lovers who are figuring out life. Jide decides that Asabi does not belong in his life after he finds a way to improve their situation by becoming a pastor. He then makes a dramatic step that would have lasting consequences on Asabi. Years later, after abandoning Asabi, Jide has become the most prominent preacher in Lagos. Asabi, who has likewise made positive changes in her life, has returned seeking vengeance. To bring Jide down, she hires a stripper named Sharon (Okunsanya Lolade).

The Wildflower (Netflix)

The Wildflower has a dual storyline. Rolake (Damilare Kuku), an ambitious young woman, gets a job as the personal assistant to the CEO of a prominent architectural firm, Gowon Williams (Deyemi Okanlawon), whom she comes to look up to and worship. However, Gowon has a dark side: he is a serial rapist, and he takes advantage of Rolake while they are both on a business trip. On the side, Rolake’s next-door neighbour, mama Adaolisa (Toyin Abraham), is subjected to domestic violence at the hands of her husband until disaster strikes and he murders her and escapes, leaving behind two kids (Adaolisa and Cecilia), whom Rolake decides to raise. Adaolisa also barely avoids being raped by a sexual predator when Rolake is away on business. Selfless Rolake, in the middle of these tragedies, must be there for the children while still dealing with her own pain and seeking justice.

A Simple Lie (Netflix)

The lead role of Boma (Bisola Aiyeola) is a lonely lady who longs for a man’s love. Fortunately, she runs into her ex, Xavier (Kachi Nnochiri), and devises a cunning scheme to trap him, including pretending to have cancer. Boma’s longtime friend Donna (Bolaji Ogunmola) finds out via Xavier (who has ulterior motives). Boma’s house is suddenly overrun with visitors when she tells a fib, setting off a chain reaction of misfortunes that pervade the film. 

Palava (Prime Video)

Palava, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, is a comedic look at the tumultuous life of a rogue musician and his daughters from several women. Osagie ‘Osa-Wonder’ (Richard Mofe Damijo) is a long-forgotten highlife artist whose career is unexpectedly revitalised by a viral song, but he is dogged by old habits and haunted by the ghosts of his past. When Osa-Wonder’s ex-assistant appears in a video with a baby child she says is his, trouble begins. His five daughters—Bisola Aiyeola, Beverly Naya, Beverly Osu, Jemima Osunde, and Linda Ejiofor Suleiman—are losing patience with him, and this threatens his endorsement deals and his connection with his daughters. 

The Order of Things (Netflix)

In The Order of Things, we follow a nerdy protagonist as he navigates the complicated Lagos dating scene in quest of true love. Tunde (Timini Egbuson) has calculated exactly what age he will be when certain events in his life will occur. He is now 30 and eager to settle down, but his mother is adamantly opposed to the idea. Demi (Obi Maduegbuna), his older and more socially awkward brother, needs to be married first. She explains, “that is the order of things”. Demi takes on the task of finding a wife so he won’t be an obstacle in Tunde’s life.

Before Valentine’s (Netflix)

The bulk of the story takes place on the day before Valentine’s Day in a high-end hair salon frequented by famous people and the wealthy. The story revolves around the hairdressers who all present an inflated version of their life to their clients and colleagues. Sugar (Uche Montana) is a Jenifa-like figure who lies about everything and is Max’s (Shawn Faqua) constant romantic interest from the next block over. Philo (Ben Touitou) is an effeminate guy whose effeminateness is the cause of conflict in his relationship; Chika (Bolaji Ogunmola) is a super religious sister who doesn’t engage in any worldly activity but has a big secret; and Tamara (Meg Otanwa) is the envy of her coworkers because of her rich and caring husband. On the eve of Valentine’s Day, they each learn troubling information about one another.

Battle on Buka Street (Prime Video)

After a lifetime of rivalry, two half-sisters find themselves at loggerheads once again when they set up food businesses on the same street. Co-directed by Funke Akindele and Tobi Makinde, Battle on Buka Street is the current highest-grossing box office of Nollywood. It stars Sola Sobowale, Mercy Johnson, Tina Mba, Nkem Owoh, Femi Jacobs and Bimbo Ademoye.

Deja Vu (Netflix)

Though happily in love, a young couple’s bond is put to the test when rumors and suspicions threaten to tear them apart. Deja Vu stars Lateef Adedimeji, Bimpe Oyebade and Yemi Blaq.

The One For Sarah (Netflix)

As a fashion designer recovers from trauma, her quest to regain her self-worth takes a few twisty turns through a series of relationships. The One For Sarah stars Beverly Naya, Uzor Arukwe, Bucci Franklin and Daniel Etim Effiong.

CAKE (Prime Video)

As a new year rolls in, Tomiwa is not holding back anymore, he is going to tell Chalya how he feels about her. He picks the date and sets the scene but just before then, Chalya, calls in a special order, all excited. Her fiancé Theo Maduka has proposed and she can’t think of a better person than him, to make her wedding cake. What becomes of Tomiwa? The romantic comedy directed by Prosper Edesiri under the First Features Projects stars Folu Storms, Tope Tedela, Sophie Alakija and Patience Ozokwor.
